It's the same exact file. Just without the surrounding HTML code (ads, links to forum, wiki & chat, high scores, ...)

You can.
Just don't use both at the time or you might loose your progression.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I might do to connect?
As far as I know, there's nothing you can do but wait.
I works correctly right now. Just try to keep your browser's window open once the game is loaded.
If you have to close it, remember to check that your status icon is not "disconnected".

Currently I'm drawing a complete blank on connecting to either:

http://www.elementsthegame.com
or
http://www.elementsthegame.com/elementnew.swf

I'm getting repeated "The connection was interrupted: The document contains no data" errors. Both Firefox and Opera are bugging out on me in this way.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I might do to connect?

Try both, use the one you prefer.

I prefer the site, as that way I can keep the size of the game to whatever I want without changing the window size.
