a bit of a tangent question- it was brought up in the public forum that a 13th quanta type was considered taboo, so this got me to thinking: of what significance is it that we are doing here?  is this stuff that could actually make it into the game, pending zanz's approval of course- and if so would it be possible to receive nods/stop signs along the way, or are we essentially just writing Star Trek fanfiction?

13th quanta was taboo because:
1) It really was too hard for everyone that was making an attempt.
2) It would require new code and thus needs to be worth that code.
3) It was a large change and there was no sign from Zanz that it was wanted.

1&2) We have more skill in this group than any previous attempt.
3) I have requested the council ask Zanz about the possibility of new elements to see if he would be open to ideas from us.

At the moment, the 12 elements offer a way to evenly divide the elements in several different ways. 13 elements is impossible to divide without leaving a group with uneven numbers. Having 16 elements is always fun, though, right?

not to sound negative or anything, but we have to be honest with ourselves and realize that this potentially is a primary storage area for 13th element ideas. When we ask Zanz about a 13th element, chances are he will most probably say no, mid chance, he will say he is considering it but not in the near future.
if the second occurs, this basically becomes a storage area where Zanz will come looking in here first for ideas when he decides to add a 13th element.

It's true that the 13th element and more would imbalance cards like Nova and Discord, which is why most neo-element cards up to now have been limited to other resources like HP, "Void Quantum", and random quantum. With careful balancing however we might be able to work around that.

yeah, thats what its all about when introducing a new element i suppose, you gotta edit a bunch of stuff like nova, discord, quantum pillar, immolation, devourer (its random absorption targeting) etc.

OK, so I think the best place to go from here is:

Assuming that you need about 16 total cards to make a coherent element, what OUTSIDE of the already-posted list of "fundamentals" should the Mind element feature?

Brainstorm time!

- Drawing cards with a mechanic other than hasten. 
- Dominate an opponent's creature (a la MtG's Control Magic)
- Biofeedback?  What would that do?
- I'd like to see some 'imagination' based mechanics.  Something really crazy.
- Postulation: 4 Mind.  Spell.  Target a card in your hand.  Discard another random card from your hand.  If it matches the element of target card, you may play that card without paying it's casting cost.


If something happens and you think it deserves my attention, feel free to PM me. Other than that, I'm probably here if you want to shoot the breeze.

Can that be balanced? Other wise it could create a specific (otherwise obtainable Mind card)

basically you can use the ability of the opponents creature for own benefit, as though it were your creature.
so for example: enemy Pharaoh generates a scarab for you. or Enemy otyugh devours one of its friendly creatures. also the ability of the enemy creature is now in cooldown, it counts as a use.
(I think this one is really good for the concept as well as a new mechanic.)

my idea of mind would be telekinesis and turning thoughts into matter (forget the term for that), this is where creatures could come from, as well as creatures which are thought to live inside a persons mind.

personally i only voted for mind as it has its own quanta pool, a necessity in my mind (no pun intended), but spirit would have been a better theme to go with.
Like moomoose I think it would be best if we had a new quantum pool that utilizes Spirit's mechanics.
... No thoughts on this stance?
