It's sad that the satire style and more elaborate jokes are not thriving types of comedy in the modern atmosphere. They're my favorite types of comedians and they're getting harder and harder to find.
The complexity of comedy is going down to make jokes go faster. People have shorter attention spans. It all ties to overpopulation.
Crazy you say? Yes I am, but allow me to explain my 3 point hypothesis:
1) This is a side effect of the number of people multiplying on the planet exponentially. The higher the number the greater the diversity, right? That means more competition for media space. No matter what type of media you go to, you only have so many hours of the day to do it.
2) People have less time, so that pushes for those media outlets to craft faster attention grabs. In the example of television where most comedians are found, people begin searching channels for the first thing that catches their attention before they head to the next task.
3) Why are comedians like Danial Tosh appealing in that sense? Your flipping through the channels and see Tosh.0. The length of the jokes are such that if you stick around a moment he starts a new one and you can laugh sooner. Older comedy styles had comedians going on longer running jokes. If you popped in halfway through one of those you'd be lost for a while. You'd likely change the channel.
