Mel Brooks and Monty Python, for the same reason as OT.
Additionally, in french comedians, Gotlib. Any fluent french speaker should one day try to get the "Rubriques a brac" and devour the pages.
I received the Rubriques à brac with a ton of bd when I was 8... my parents didn't bother to check what I receive... boy was this troubling and over what I  could understand at the time!... Great stuff though!

Would I have to speak French to understand this or is there an English translated version?

There are many, many, many wordplays and references to parts of french culture. Of course, some jokes would still pass but i doubt it'll be worth near as much translated. On the existence of a translation, i honestly don't know if it exists.

George Carlin. Because he didn't tell jokes, he just pointed out how f**ked up and broken life is... and we laughed.

Robin Williams. Because he had me doing literal roflcopters, and because he's the only guy I know who's done more drugs then me.

Notable Mentions:
Louis Ck, Chris Rock, Jim Carrey, Jon Stewert (The Daily Show), Anthony Jeselnik, and regulars for annual Roasts on Comedy Central.

I don't like much stand-up.

However, I like Daniel Tosh's and Robin William's stand-up. Also, I enjoy a lot of comedy shows so I don't hate comedy, I just hate a lot of stand-up.
