Essence, I actually laughed at that so hard I cried.  Been a very long time since I laughed that hard, thank you!  It sounds vaguely familiar, but if it hit my funny bone so keenly, I can't imagine I've read it before.

Glad to hear it.    The urban legend (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blbyol3.htm) is that it was a college application letter, but the truth is that it was written as a high school essay.

I was trying to read it to someone and there were several spots I couldn't continue because I was laughing too hard.  "Thirty-Minute Brownies," "corduroy evening wear," and "full-contact origami" were such moments, but the bit about the village near the Amazon had me tied up in hysterics for a good ten seconds at least.

Reminds me of my first time reading A Fine and Pleasant Misery.  (It wasn't as funny the second time.)
