A very accurate description of Shards, by Bruce Campbell.
Spoiler for analysis:
If you have it, you don't need it. Self-explanatory. You have enough shards for every purpose already!
If you need it, you don't have it. When you need shards to build decks for certain purposes, of course, you haven't acquired it yet.
If you have it, you need more of it. Who doesn't want a trainer edition?
If you have more of it, you don't need less of it. 6 of each shard is always better than 5 of each shard.
You need it, to get it. Shards are required for decent FG/arena grinders. Without shards, arena grinding depends on how many mono-aethers your grabbow meet.
And you certainly need it to get more of it. Same as above.
But if you don't already have any of it to begin with, you can't get any of it to get started Illustrates the above situation accurately.
Which means, you really have no idea how to get it in the first place, do you? Shard-less people are mostly newer players, who may not know about the best (shard-less) grinders out there.
You can share it, sure. Shard farms are not too rare.
You can even stockpile it if you like. Yep, you can stockpile 12 of each for a trainer edition.
But you can't fake it. The way you talk in chat shows whether you are shard-less or not. It is obvious.
Wanting it, needing it, wishing for it. Who doesn't?
The point is, If you've never had any of it, ever, people just seem to know. Again, evidence from the way you talk in chat.

PVE shouldn't be all about copying a deck code and converting time into electrum, score, and potentially rares.
If the only way to derive fun from a game is its PVP content, then non-hardcore players a.k.a. the mass are alienated from the hardcore community.
