According to scientific data apparently a different species egg mutated into a chicken egg so the egg came first. Wanted to answer that first cause BP would probably just give you a vague answer what's got nothing to do with the question.

From my sources, this question depends on your definition of chicken and egg. The first chicken hatched from an egg that was not laid by the chickens we see today, it's laid by its near ancestor. If you accept the egg that was laid to be a chicken egg, but not accept the bird that laid it as a chicken then egg existed first. If you don't accept that egg as a chicken egg, then chicken existed first because it's not a hatched from a chicken egg. If the egg in question does not have to be a chicken egg to qualify, then egg existed first. If you accept the near ancestor of the chicken as also chicken, then chicken existed first because the first ancestor of the chicken was not hatched from an egg it was born through other means(e.g. mitosis, vivipation).

Hope this clears your confusion instead of adding more to it. :P

That's actually a lot better than mine, quite descriptive and I can see how it depends on the individual.

Which came first: the chicken or the egg?
Depends. Chrisitan point of view. Chicken.
Scientific point of view. Egg
Dinosaurs laid eggs before chickens existed.
What is the square root of a piece of pi?

Otherwise, yes, it depends on the piece of pie.

My reasoning was "a piece of pi" meaning something less than 3.1459265, so the answer would be anything less than 1.43961949584759069.
