Title: Guild vs Guild 2v2 Tournament
Post by: Zawadx on July 26, 2015, 02:47:21 am
We are proud to announce the start of GvG, Guild vs Guild pvp!

So far, guilds have been taking it pretty slow. But not anymore! Guildmasters are currently working on a system which will allow guilds to challenge each other for guild point. Meanwhile, we will kick off GvG with a tournament following one of the multiplayer systems designed for GvG!

Rules:

1. This tournament will follow the 2v2 format. Rules for the format may be found here.
2. Each guild may form up to two teams of two players each. The roster of the teams of each guild should be posted here within seven days of of this post.
3. The teams will be seeded into a single elimination tournament. The two teams of a guild will be seeded into opposite sides of the bracket.
4. Each deck may use up to 6 upgrades. Aside from this, there are no restrictions on deckbuilding.
5. The two teams of a guild may cooperate with each other and other guild members regarding strategy and deckbuilding freely.
6. In case of a tie in the no. of matches won, either player from each team will play one final match using either deck. The winner of this Bo1 wins that round.

Matches & Rewards:

The tournament will be single elimination, with each round lasting 7 days. After each match, the team must post results in this thread and PM both guildmasters with decks used. Decks may be changed between rounds, but both must comply with 2v2 rules.
Once the tournament is over, teams will receive points for their guild. These points are 20/17/13/10 for top 4 teams.

2v2 rules:

Each member of a team builds one deck.
The two decks built by a team must COMBINED contain no more than 6 of any (non-pillar/pendulum) card.  Unupped and Upped versions count as the same card.
Elements' usage is defined as follows: An element is PRESENT if any non-pillar/pend/mark card of that element exists in a deck.  An element is USED if 2 different non pillar/pend/mark cards appear in a deck. (For example, if the only earth cards in a deck are 6 antlions, Earth is present, but not used.  If one antlion and one stone dragon appear in a deck, Earth is used in that deck.)  The element Other is used whenever three or more elements are present but not used, or whenever five or more elements are present or used.
The two players on a team may not use any of the same elements in their decks, including Other.

Each player plays a best-of-3 with their set deck against each opponent.  This means 4 total best-of-3's are played.  All 4 decks should be locked before the match begins.
The 2 player team which wins more total games wins the match.  There will be between 8 and 12 total games played, with a max score for a single team being 8.

Good luck, duelists!

Ties will be broken by "sudden death" mode, in which each team selects one of their two previous decks to play.  Either player may play either deck for the sudden death game, such that the identity of the deck is not known when the identity of the player is known.

Additional bans/restrictions on deckbuilding in terms of number of ups, banned cards, shards or no shards could vary among events using this 2v2 format.   For now, the teams planning to run test-duels can agree to whatever set of such rules they prefer.

Good luck, duelists!

The yellow quoted text is a bit confusing to me.  Is this carry-over from some template instance where these rules were copied?  If this indeed applies here to the Guilds Tournament then what are the "test-duels"?

Yeah, I just copied the text of the rules over from the original 2v2 thread, I'll remove that section as it doesn't apply here.

With the definition of "use" used in the text before it?

Also, the maximum of 6 of a same card per team counts for pillars/pends too?

To add to what jenk said, can we get some deck examples?
Also, how it will work? Atm, rules are a bit unclear. Each player makes one deck and plays bo3 against who?

Yes and no.

Examples!
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4so 4su 52v 52v 52v 52v 52v 52v 5lm 5lm 5lm 5lm 5lm 5lm 5mq 5mq 5oc 5oc 5oc 5oc 5oc 5oc 5oc 5oc 71b 71b 71b 71b 71b 71b 8ps

Note that here, :death is USED and :light is present. Marks, pillars and pends don't count.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 4sa 52s 55l 55m 55o 55p 55q 55r 55s 55t 55u 55v 560 561 562 563 568 56i 5ij 5lm 745 747 748 74b 74c 74i 8ps

This deck has both Other and Gravity used. Even though we only have one cards each for three elements, they count as being present and so Other is used.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4vg 4vh 52r 52u 5oj 5ol 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5us 5us 5us 5us 5us 5us 8ps

However, in this deck four elements are used (not present, but used). So Other doesn't count as used.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
4vg 4vh 52r 52u 5oj 5ol 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rk 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5ur 5us 5us 5us 5us 5us 5us 8ps

But if you accidentally put in another card to make a new element present, then Other counts as used.

I believe that clarifies 'use' and 'present'. You can have an element present in both decks, but an element can only be used in one deck. So possible usage configurations are: Used in 1; Present in 1; Used in 1 and present in other; or Present in both.

R1 coming ASAP.
