What do you do when you dip an organization of fishes in gold? Rules:- In this event your task is to come up with, and guess the punchlines to, Word Avalanches.
- A word avalanche is a series of words which are phonetically similar (i.e. which sound the same or are similar). Usually a word avalanche is set up by describing the words in another way. e.g. An antiwar slice of pizza named Pete living in Italy: Pete's a piece a' Pisa peace pizza
- For the first task of the quest, you come up with a word avalanche along with an appropriate setup. Then post the setup here, and PM both the setup and the punchline/avalanche to the Guildmasters
- For the second task, other guilds guess the avalanche to match the setup. If it's good enough (as deemed by the Guildmasters), that guild will be considered to have scored that avalanche. If no one can properly guess after 72 hours of posting, that avalanche is considered to be scored by the guild that posted it.
- The setup should be in simple language, so that everyone can understand. The topic of the avalanche may be anything, but bonus points for incorporating Elements or the forums.
- As always, submissions should be PG-13 in nature, and follow forums rules.
- Guilds may up to three submissions for the first task active at any point.
Rewards:TBD. Lots of X mysteryguildpoints promised!
You have: No time leftFAQQ: Could we have some examples of word avalanches?A: You'll find loads of them at
r/WordAvalanches. Also
the source of the comic from the banner is good. Here are some nice ones:
- Jenna confronts her friend, Jen about her plans to assassinate an Islamic dignitary. Jen, however, has a darker and more extensive agenda.
Jenna sighed. "Jen, a Syed"? Jen, aside: "...Genocide". - A physically imposing woman loudly conspires to steal another woman's alcohol.
"Let's jack Danielle's Jack Daniels," jacked Anne yells. - "I have a boyfriend", she said in pain, as she grabbed the valuable CD out of the fog. Her boyfriend and her mom had just been shot at the cinema.
A Miss, taken and mistaken amidst taking a missed Akon mixtape in a mist, aching, missed a kin who missed Taken. - If you were to write a direct, very short introduction for Microsoft Office's word processor, it might be a...
...forward four-word foreword for Word.
Q: What is this X?A: X is a variable for now. I'm hoping to revamp the guilds points system and set it up to both be fun for guild members and easy to manage for guildmasters. The points will be awarded, and they might be worth more than they used to be
Q: What is this event argghhhh is it a competition or a league or what?A: It's kind of a free-for-all, where guilds can post the avalanche as a sort of puzzle for the other guilds, who have to figure it out. Lemme try to show how it might go with an example:
Ok, begin!
Guess the avalanche: "What do you do when you dip an organization of fishes in gold? "
Is it Celia Seal ya Cereal?
Uh... that doesn't make any sense.
Guild B, your guess is not relevant for the setup. So you do not score this avalanche, and it's still open.
Ok, guess the punchline for "Career choice swing in favour of baby doctoring explains fall in police enlistment numbers."
Oh this one's easy! It's Paediatrician PD attrition.
Correct!
Guild B, your guess is accurate! Congrats on scoring this avalanche.
... 72 hours later
As nobody could guess Guild A's avalanche, it is scored by Guild A.
Looks like no one got it. The answer is:
