You might wanna adjust the numbers a bit. Compare the unupped version to Immortal, which is immortal without conditions, and has better stats for the same cost.
Yeah, that's what I looked at to begin with.
Lich vs Immortal
-1 | +2, same cost, immortality can be removed via PC.

Greater Lich vs Elite Immortal
0 | +1, -1 quanta, immortality can be removed via PC., and a single 5 HP heal for an extra 3 :darkness.

They're close enough that I don't want to fudge with numbers quite yet.  Keep in mind though, that Lich can be improved by Nightfall | Eclipse, while to my knowledge, there is no buff for Immortal.  Should that be taken into account with the original cost?

Ah.  Haven't played M:TG in so long it's not even funny...and wow they've changed the front of cards.

Have they really ran out of expansion names so much they can only name them off the year of release now?  =P

Edit: Ange: Yes.  It's still in play, no matter who possesses it, it's still intact, so the Lich is still protected.  That, again, is in line with the current usage in Liches in things like World of Warcraft and D&D (what I know of it, anyways.)  I'll include that in the notes.

Patch: Because it's a Lich.  Phylacteries are vessels for Liches, and protects the essence of them.  They're unique to each Lich.  Imagine if they were Djinns and they spawned Rings or Lamps upon playing...same thing.

I thought about numbers, but it could easily get confused with counters.  Letters just seems too kludgy...perhaps colored background of both cards?  Or simply mousing over one highlights the other?

Continues the theme from Lich's Spirit that was designed for the Duality Challenge.  A Phylactery is spawned that can not be protected, but while it's in play the Lich is untouchable.  In case your side has no more room for permanents, Lich can still be played, but the Phylactery creation will fizzle, meaning your Lich can be targeted immediately and AP|HP loss is immediate.  If Phylactery is stolen, it is still intact, thus Lich is still protected.

Change notes: Previous version was 3|5 || 5|5 to start and read "Phylactery is brought into play when Lich is played.  While Phylactery is in play, Lich is immortal."

One possible solution: when you first log in, go *straight* to t50, don't hit anything else.  Doing that has allowed me to resume t50 farming today.

Changed to target any creature without an activatable ability.  If anyone can come up with a better term for that than 'generic', I'll adjust card accordingly.  Deck change in a little bit.

What if I went with a more radical cost / change, a la Archangel's +6|+1 for 3 quanta more?  Maybe make it cost 8 :darkness, and have it be 3|6 or 4|6 for the upped version?

I should make something known to you guys, just so I know that you all know. ^^;

The only pseudoquanta cards that will not be allowed into the current system will be the ones not using the pseudoquanta icons. Hence, the reason why Copy Pillar | Copy Tower was moved to Crucible this past week without hindrance.
If CP/CT was put in, shouldn't that read "...that will be allowed into...", not "that will not be allowed into..."?
