Yay, new cards are always fun.

By the way, may I take credit for this card idea because of my needle beast card?
Um, because it uses a picture of a scorpion?

BTW, I did vote for Needle Beast/Plague Beast.  Did you get the naming convention from Guild Wars?

I lost with this actually. His hand filled up with about 2 more cards than me, and instead of bolting my creatures, he simply sniped them. Maybe he didn't have any bolts... maybe make the deck a few cards bigger.
I'm worried it may prevent you from getting an emerald shield in time... Maybe you could add a couple of Pandemoniums and hope they TU his cards?  Or 2 Novas, a Deflagration, and a Reverse Time.

Did he use the Explosions on your pillars?  If not, might have to include a couple of daggers.

Hmm.  Could previous donations count towards the purchase?   ;D

Also if he gets an eagle eye out he seems much less likely to use steal on it which helps.
Yes.  It seems the AI values Eagles' Eye more because it usually won't steal your Electrocutor until it can replace it with another Eagle in its hand.

but its just not worth the effort imo :P.
I agree.  I've only been playing Rainbow recently because of the talk in this post.   :P

...what?  Despite your dirty mind, I am in no way implying flatulence.  The original text mentioned it smelling like natural gas, but I thought that would be too dumb.
Apocalypse Now?

the "this is why we can't have nice things" is pretty good too. I've heard that phrase uttered several times before, but all by one person, so I didn't know it was an actual thing
You got me interested in its origin and Metafilter (http://ask.metafilter.com/144279/THIS-IS-WHY-WE-CANT-HAVE-NICE-THINGS) was the best I could find.

Upgrades

There have been a few recent threads evaluating the upgrades of cards--which upgrades are the best or which upgrades you should skip.
To make the valuation process easier I have created tables showing the benefits (or costs) of upgrading every card (relics and shards excluded).

The factors to consider when deciding to upgrade any card are quanta cost, attack of a creature, HP of a creature, and any change in the card's effect or targeting.
There is also the subject of saving an unupgraded card for use in competitions or for exploitating the AI--those factors will be left out of this evaluation.

Quanta Cost
Whenever a card is reduced in cost or produces more quanta it will be deemed a definitive benefit.  In the current state of the game, there are only a few marginal cases that can penalize you for having excess quanta.  Black Hole and Devourers can steal any quanta you haven't used and either heal your opponent or generate quanta for them.  But, because of the randomness in drawing cards it is impossible to account for every quantum and to adjust your deck so as to not leave any for your opponent.  In fact, the best counter is to have reduced costs and excess quanta so that you will have some for yourself.  Whatever amount your opponent is enriched is insignificant compared to not being able to utilize your own cards.  Another thing to consider is the auto-mulligan mechanic, which may be adversely affected if you include a zero-cost card that does not give you quanta.

Attack Power
Any increase in the attack of a creature is beneficial but with a few exceptions.  If the increase makes the creature vulnerable to certain shields then it has to be considered as a potential drawback to the card.  Thorn Carapace, Fire Shield, and Ice Shield can render a penetrating creature useless or dead.  An increase in attack can also be a decrease in effectiveness when the creature is combined with Adrenaline.  The Paradox ability and Butterfly Effect may also weigh in on whether you want to increase a creature's attack or not.  The potential backfiring of a high-attack creature hit by Antimatter will not be considered as a drawback in this evaluation.

HP
Any increase in HP gives your creature more survivability which is a definite plus.  But, the effect of Gravity Shield may prevent the creature from being useful.  Luckily, this is just one break-point to consider.  The ease in killing of your own creatures that have been Antimattered or for causing Death effects will not be used in this evaluation.

All cards will be grouped into 4 categories:
  • Cards that become strictly better when upgraded--there is no reason not to upgrade them (as outlined above)
  • Cards that become generally better--the face value is always better, but in-game situations may make you reconsider
  • Trade-offs--these cards sacrifice one stat for another and may be better left unupgraded depending on your deck
  • Transformed cards--the effect has changed or it affects different targets (or there is simply no way to quantify the difference)
Legend
: Attack power : HP : Immunity to Ice Shield freezing
: Immunity to Permafrost Shield freezing : Immunity to Thorn Carapace : Immunity to Spine Carapace poisoning
: Penetration through Gravity Shield : Immunity to Fire Shield : Butterfly Effect targeting
: Immunity to Maxwell's Demon : Damage with Adrenaline : Consideration by auto-mulligan
Adrenaline Note: It will only be listed when the upgrade causes a card to lose damage when combined with adrenaline.  Generally, when a card gains attack it will also gain damage with adrenaline and would be redundant.  Combinations with other buffs are not considered.
Weapon Note: All weapons have been grouped according to their Flying Weapon stats.  If ignoring the effect of Flying Weapon, all weapons can be categorized as 'Strictly better'.

To answer your subject line's question: yes.  I made a mono-entorpy anti-FG deck quite nicely.
Then wouldn't the answer be "no"?

I suppose you mean the final question in the OP.   ;)

Forum Archive / Re: How to make the best possible rare farm deck
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:26:13 am »
I'm curious about nymphs, do they all count against the same 6 card limit or against separate ones?  If its seperate, a deck of 24 nymphs ( 4 types) and 6 relics  or 30 nymphs (5 types) would be a very good money farm.  (60 for master + 3 relics which sell for 65 each = 255 gold assured, which is equivalent to a FG with a 100% win rate - upgraded cards)
I tested in the trainer and they all act as separate cards.  So, that deck would be possible.

But don't hold your breath waiting for someone to get 24 nymphs in the top50.   ;)

I take that back.  According to this poll (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,5189.0/viewresults/poll,118.html), 2 people have 30+ nymphs and 1 has 18-19.
