Game Suggestions and Feedback / Re: Randomization issues
« on: February 12, 2010, 07:02:08 pm »
despite the fact the so called (i didnt knew this) mana waving is allowed in tournament, this is still done in casual game play and what has great effect on the deck randomization. i think the whole discussion about unfair random effects depends to a great extend to the subjective perceiving of how the randomness manifests. by sure all of us had several moments of swearing the random function to hell - but what you wanna do? again - a function which emulates the human way of mixing isnt easy because the human way isnt driven by a plain random function. to bring long story short - as long as the record of all random events over all games forms agaussian distribution  everything is fine.

i just want to address your second point about deck shuffling. you ever played real trade card games like MTG? The point about a good shuffled deck is, that it _isnt_ shuffled by pure random. What you usually do, presuming you have a one to three ratio between mana giving and mana using cards, is taking one mana (aka quanta) card and then 3 other, again one mana and 3 other, stacking them in this order. Then you shuffle this deck in e specific way, but you still preserve some of the initial order in this deck and by this having a more equally distributed deck sequence.

This is one thing what can't be emulated by an algorithm easily. One thing what should help all of us is the so often desired muligan which lets you draw a new hand with one card less if you had no quanta (or maybe every time).

i second this suggestions.

graveyards would not only enable a whole set of new cards, it also helps you in the general gameplay. being able to actively "remember" (by reviewing the graveyard) if your opponent als already played 6 cards of one type or only five would help everybody.

also this feature would really a beginner friendly one.

o do believe that nobody needs experience at all to state a comment about something! what the heck you think your are?

dont take it personally either, but - please - respect the freedom of opinion of everyone to state a comment about anything everywhere! you dont have to agree with them, but i dont think its up to you to decide who is experienced and or who are allowed to post something (if it is political correct and so on).

so back to toppic. i dont think this card was initially designed to counter rainbow decks. i hope so. because if i'm wrong, i think this whole "process" should be stopped by all means and more backup.

you will ever have some balance issues. in every game and the more the game proceeds in development. ever and ever again. and i do not think that the right instrument to face this problem is to introduce new NERF cards. because this is e never ending story and to one point all you are doing is to nerf a nerf card. destroying the whole game dynamics by means of new improvements.

i think this card is pretty useless.

having a look at your opponents card doesnt really helps you in most of your situations. first if you are experienced enough you will probably know what cards your opponent will hold in his hands (especially if battling against AI). second comes that after some turns your opponent often will only hold one or two cards if any cards at all, so this effect goes to be totally useless the more the game proceeds.

so what is left - you can draw a card. so if i have this card in my hand, in can spent 2 quanta to draw a new card. this is even more worse. i i have left this card out totally from my deck, i would have 2 quanta spent (or lets say wasted) less.

if i compare this card to the other new alchemy cads this one really looks bad!

i dont see why i would use this card at all.

i i were playing a deck based on or using hourglasses i dont see why i would replace them for this really ugly nymph. this is the far most useless nymph among all. why? because a) it coasts a lot, really a lot. especially if compared to hourglass. b) and for what? i can spend 2 quanta to draw a card. hurray! the hourglass cost me also 2 quanta.

So the only advantage compared to the hourglass is that i can have a look at my opponents hand. ok - this sounds nice, but what is it good for. if you are experienced enough you will already fairly know what cards do your opponent hold in his hands. and the second time you use this skill there will most likely  nothing changed at all. and the this is a creature card, which can be frozen, destroyed, devoured, copied, gravity-pulled .....

btw. the same goes for the single alchemy card "precognition". but i will left my sentence there ....

i don't like this card idea at all.

this is in my opinion a intermixture of the different mark/color themes. Quanta manipulation goes so long for chaos/purple and to heal yourself you have to mix up with "healing colors" like green, black or white.

to put the favorite abilities of such colors into other colors destroyes for me the whole idea of having so many different colors to choose from. if you keep going this development you end up with mono color card decks which use/cast all dedicated special abilities of other colors. each color should (and have to) stick with the initial idea of this color along with their dedicated special abilities!

despite this i think this card is to powerful. ignoring the rainbow deck killer abilities, so far the most decks i have seen (not pure beginner decks) uses more than just one color (3 are quite common). and with this fact in mind you get for only 4 quanta around 9 health and absorb also 9 quanta from your opponent. combine this with the discord weapon and this is even getting worse ... not talking about what you will get if your opponent playes a rainbow deck.

the same and the more this criticism goes for the new graviton nymph.
