Logic and reasoning made me an athiest. Science worked out as a supportive tool for this.

A boy says " Timmy is really big. "
We asked the boy " Who is Timmy ? ".
The boy replied, " Timmy is my big brother. "

The question is " Is Timmy really big ? ". The answer is yes for the boy. The boy compares his own size to his big brother Timmy.
The question before us is " Is universe highly complicated ? ". The answer is yes for the humans. He compares his own intelligence to the working of the universe.

The truth is that the universe is very simple. But the human's limited intelligence and knowledge makes the universe seem overly complicated which leads to the belief within himself that there is a need for a highly intelligent being to exist inorder to create and maintain this universe.
this is in fact an excellent way of putting things. my one point of correction would be to say that actually the universe is not overtly simple - that's why it has taken billions of years for everything to happen up to this point. but yes the universe is a lot simpler than we view it. sometimes though it just takes someone with a different way of looking at things to see it.

Science / Re: Water
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:05:48 pm »
the tastelessness of water is less to do with water itself than us. early on in the development of complex life we evolved to not recognize the taste of water. reason being that if we  could taste water and not to drink it we would die. simple as that. water is remarkable just as any other liquid is, it just happens that we use it more than any other substance (other than oxygen).

Science / Re: nuclear power stations

yes disasters are very rare. the safety precautions taken are immense. think of it this way - you remember the power station in japan during the earth quake? now look at that. how safe must they be if it takes a force 8.9 quake to even produce a "risk" of meltdown? as for nuclear waste that problem will be solved either when we find a use for it (unlikely) or when we perfect fusion. this source of energy is not only greener but also less likely to explode than other power stations. no contest.

Buff This Card! / Re: Cloak///Cloak

hmm i suppose they could give it invulnerability to PC and erase the timer function to make it last forever... this card protects all your creatures and perms for 3 turns as well as preventing you from seeing what your opponent's doing. it has the ability to wreck some tactics and substantially slow down others. no buff.

Science / nuclear power stations

for a long time i've been arguing with most of the people i know about whether the creation and use of nuclear reactions to generate power is better for the world and a step forward, or a disaster and something that should be protested against and ultimately globally banned. i for one am all for them, i just wanted to see what the vast majority feel.

Books & Comics / Re: Superheroes

i think it's pretty much agreed that superman sucks (no offence to any fans) i once watch a superman movie and i found it beyond ridiculous. i though well, OK he can fly not oo bad. oh now he can see through walls, still acceptable but moving on a little, then i found him with super strength. sorry but this guy is getting a bit much. next up he turns out to be immortal, piss off... and last but certainly not
least he turns out with LAZER vision. at that point i actually unplugged the whole TV set.

PS oh yes and it just so happens that the ONLY thing that can possibly even harm him (and even then only by stabbing him) is a piece of crystal that comes from an entirely different planet. sorry but i bet even DC are embarrassed about him.

i prefer ones that are plausible. for example i find superpowers fine when it is explained how they were attained and that they are physically possible (not anything like superman). i do prefer, however, heros who are not supernaturally gifted.

Forum Bugs, Suggestions and Feedback / Re: Sell T-Shirts?

we ought to brainstorm other forms of merchandise. t-shirts evidently might not be enough but if we keep on thinking of other stuff i'm pretty sure we'll strike gold somewhere

We just need someone who produces t-shirts and the like for a living to give zanz a discount. Anyone here own a t-shirt business?  :P
or even anyone in the textiles industry who's above your average sewing machine worker

would it work if you expanded your target market from just users and fans to the wider public, maybe advertising online, word of mouth (fashionable friends may see you wearing a good t-shirt and ask where you get them)? you could even make another website for elements where you can order your product. i understand that there may be difficulties in advertising and also with retail and manufacture where, if there aren't enough orders or the idea doesn't even get up off the ground it'll be a waste of money, if there are too many orders you may reach the limit of imported goods that the supplier allows, if you get the price even slightly wrong you wont get enough profit (if any) and alternatively no one will want to pay such a sum as given, and again money will be lost. publicity would also be an issue as it doesn't actually sound as if there's enough money going round to produce sufficient advertising.

there are probably many more minor and major difficulties, but if we find a way to get past them, would it be possible? cos that way it would be entirely separate from the donations and thus will not reduce the amount of people donating. i've always thought business could be made out of this ever expanding game.

btw, if this thing really works would we elect treasurers like we have card curators and deck helpers etc... ;)

One should be called "Good-bye threads."

I'm only half-joking.
it's true there have been quite a few threads created where some user or other is leaving. i remember early this year we had about 5 consecutive "bye bye" threads. somehow i don't feel that this is going to put into action though.

i personally am all for a n alternate game discussion board.
