General Discussion / Props to 'Elements'!
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:07 pm »

Hey, everyone.  I just registered on the boards to make suggestions and report bugs, but I'd just like to give props to the maker of the game Zanzarino created.   After finding out that this was basically a one-person operation, I was thoroughly impressed.

I was surprised with how enjoyable this game was, especially when I considered the how small the selection of cards was; something about the game's simplicity impressed even further.  I also appreciate the game's layout, interactivity, and choice of artwork (even if a lot of the pictures are from Spore).  I can tell that a lot of attention and time has been invested into this game, so the designer and additional developers (if any) have my thanks.

I hope that the hard work and effort that was put into this game promotes Zanz's exposure and recognition as a game designer.

I'd like to open this thread to people who also wish to give the creator(s) some positive feedback, as long as the moderators and admin deem it appropriate =)  And, hopefully, Zanzarino will get to read it some day.

Suggestions for minor interface and navigation changes:

1) Make the Upgrade Card option more readily available: on the main screen, and within the Deck Manager.
- Right now, the only way to get to the card upgrader is through Quests > Upgrade Card.  It'd seem more intuitive and convenient to have it available within the Deck Manager, and as a button inside the "Manage Your Deck" panel on the main screen.

2) Spending 1,500 to upgrade a card can be a big deal for some players, so it'd be nice to be prompted before making an upgrade.
- Currently, there isn't any prompt.  Although there's a reasonable refund for selling old/unwanted rares and upgraded cards, it'd still be nice to get a pop-up window asking, "Are you sure you would like to upgrade [card name] for 1,500 Electrum coins?"

3) Selling rares and upgraded cards are also a big deal, so I appreciate the prompt.  However (and call me a whimp, but), it was quite startling the first time I received the prompt, and I still dread it every time.
a. I'd like to put in a request to change it slightly; to not have it be so loud/flashy.
b. Additionally, instead of the process being: clicking once; receive prompt; click again, I suggest having a pop-up window giving you the option to sell or cancel, similar to buying an upgrade as I suggested above.

Thanks for reading.  I think it's already an awesome game, just offering suggestions to touch it up.

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Discard option available during your turn
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:07 pm »

I've come across situations where I've wanted to discard cards before the end of my turn, and I was wondering if it would be viable to implement discarding cards before the end of your turn.

This feature would be useful in situations where you'd like to draw additional cards (with an hourglass or sundial) and are willing to sacrifice cards in your already full hand.

(Currently, as of Oct 2009, drawing additional cards when you already have 8 cards in your hand will make you spend the mana, and the number of cards remaining in your deck will decrease.  However, these newly-drawn cards become invisible, unplayable, and sometimes discardable at the end of your turn).

Thanks.

(Sorry if this has been posted before.  I did my best to read all the forum topics before posting.)

Haha, nice.

Those photons and Elite De-ja vus are not to be messed with.

I'd like to mention that this aspect of the game — not being able to use a creature's ability because of a mistake or mis-click — brought me to these forums.

I'll support the game designer's decisions to keep this aspect of the game, however as a new player, and probably for everyone who encounters this issue, it really does seem like a bug.  Please consider making a note of this within the game so people will understand that this was intentional.

On a related note, I'd like to highly encourage the designer/development team to consider allowing you to cancel mistaken clicks like these without a consequence.  If there must be a cost to this mistake, at the most just burn the mana cost, but not the ability cooldown (accidentally spending one turn worth of an ability can be HUGE during a match and it's rather harsh punishment for just clicking, in my opinion).

I realize the game must maintain a certain level of difficulty to remain challenging and interesting for the player, but the "creature ability mis-click" is simply frustrating, especially if it's an honest mistake (For instance, "Oops, I meant to click on my Otyugh not my Anubis right now.... crap I wanted to make creature X in my hand invincible this turn.")

Finally, this aspect seems rather contradictory to being able to cancel spells in mid-cast without a consequence, and yet creature abilities become the exception.  This also reinforces the player's notion that this is actually a bug.

I'm quite passionate about this suggestion because I believe changing this (or making note of it somewhere) would only improve the interactivity of the game.  I really enjoy this game, and I'm only trying to help polish it!  Thank you.

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Countdown Timer on Freeze
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:07 pm »

*bump* (if possible)

Very good idea.

I'd like to add: the "Time Stop" effect from Procrastination Shields should have a timer as well, regardless that we all know they're only 1 turn.  It'd simply keep this "status-effect timer" consistent throughout the game.
