could be a surprise :P
voodoo doesn't explain all the finer points I believe

Having effects that are not written on the card is not a good thing. It would be an unpleasant surprise, one that leads to lost games.

Finer points of voodoo? Which ones? As long as they can be extrapolated from the card description, they're ok.

This card seems abit over powered for it to only be killed by fireshield at first glance.
Does stasis or frozen stop it's return ability?
I would think it would be better to lose the card if you don't have room in your hand at the end of the turn?
After any effects from attacking are applied, this card is returned to your hand. I couldn't fit it on the card because of poor layout design.

If it were down to me, I'd have it so that you could have them all return to your hand. Don't see how that can happen with the hard limit on hand size.
Couldn't fit your third bit on the card anyway.

Target a card to activate the ability? I'm sure zanzarino knows how to  use classes better than that.

The side effects of the abilities are the same, and so two different names are not needed. They behave the same way, so they two abilities should have the same name.
I did not claim the ability targeted the Freeze|Congeal card. (If I was careless with my wording, I apologize) I did mention that the Ability was named Freeze|Congeal because it calls the same function as Freeze|Congeal does. This means the player can reference the Freeze|Congeal spell instead of including unnecessary reminder text.

":water :water: Congeal" provides all the same information that ":water :water :Freeze target creature for 4 turns." and takes significantly less space.
Bah.

The cards need a redesign, making cards is frustrating with the tiny amount of text you can fit on them.

The adrenaline card should have a printed formula describing how many times it makes cards attack.

As for it being easier than packing enough quanta for 3 :time per turn + Eternity + fodder, this requires up to 6 copies of this card, the quanta to play at least one per turn and 2-7 cards to fill up your hand...
Hourglass your hand.

The addition of more control cards should also provide an incentive to hold onto cards for later.

You only need one to avoid a deckout, more if cards to discard from your hand are added.

The ability to avoid a deckout is interesting.
I wouldn't drop the cost but maybe 1 more attack would do it good.

Also, might I suggest that they be African Swallow | European Swallow (or vice versa) with no difference between the two?
Attack boosted.

I believe you will find that the airspeed velocities of an African and European swallow to be different, calculable by body mass and aerodynamic potential.

You still have the problem of it stopping your draw potential. Then we can talk about its incompatibility with buff cards, hourglasses, and because of the first point, fractal. Then we can compare it to quint, which for 4 quanta and an extra card, makes any creature invincible.
Buffing this does kind of suck, because the buff dies in one turn. Single-turn buffs like wings are more appropriate for this card.

It does stop your ability to draw, but some people will end up filling their hands anyways. Filling your hand with an hourglass is unwise, but still possible. You can avoid decking out with this, as it plugs up your hand at the end of each turn.

OOOH. Quintessence does compete with this. Dock the cost to 2 :air, bump the damage to 5?

1. When will you not have 8 cards? This stops your draw if you have 7 cards. Please change it to "...if you do not hold more than 6 cards."
2. Weak, 4 damage per turn for a 3 :air upkeep?
1. When you have multiple unladen swallows in play and you fractal that wyrm that takes your fancy.
2. That is a little poor in damage terms. Not being able to smack it with spells is supposed to compensate for that, but I could bump the damage if it's really a problem.

NOTES:
Named after my favorite python interpreter.

Has airborne, as per all the other birds.
In return for the need to play the card over and over again, it's nigh unkillable and can be pushed out with wings for that last little push.

Discovered after the posting of this card, you could use this to avoid deckout if the swallow fills your hand. It also blocks nightmare, as you already have 8 cards in your hand.

The way it is presented to the player is in the form of 4 cards Freeze|Congeal (common) and Arctic Squid|Arctic Octopus (rare)
The Rare card references the effect of the Common spell card by name.
That still means there are two different names for the same ability. We agree that there are two different names, I'd like to argue that it's not a good thing.

It isn't immediately clear that the spell shockwave also refers to the congeal effect too.

Both freeze and congeal mean to solidify something. The means by which they do it are different.
A shock-wave would not shatter a liquid or gelatinous body.
A shock-wave might shatter a solid body.
Freeze means to solidify. Congeal means to remove the liquid from an emulsion.
A shock-wave of said liquid could shatter a liquid at the molecular level if it traveled at the liquid's natural frequency.

They are not the same thing.

Insight? More like too much time studying the inane rules of the English language.

How much damage would this do for variable damage creatures, like chimera?

The upgraded one still uses "its" in the text. The subject is in the predicate, "inflict direct damage". The "lasts one turn clause still refers to the damage.

May or may not? Covering all bases now, are we?

96
Arctic Octopus does follow the current standard form:
'When a creature has a skill that acts identical to a spell it will reference the spell.'
Arctic Octopus Congeals target creature.
-> Arctic Octopus casts the Congeal spell at the target creature.
-> Arctic Octopus casts "Freeze the target creature for 4 turns. Frozen creatures cannot attack or use skills" at the target creature
-> Arctic Octopus freezes the target creature for 4 turns. Frozen creatures cannot attack or use skills.

This is a card reference based Keyword.
That's how the ability works. The way it is presented to the player is in the form of two abilities, "freeze" and the more powerful "congeal", which means dry up. The two words don't mean nearly the same thing, yet they both trigger the shockwave secondary effect.
