Tech Talk / Re: Get certified, is it worth the cost?
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:01:23 am »
Web coding is a lucrative field, growing quickly and well worth a certification of any kind. I wouldn't pay the money though, as technology companies are usually more concerned with your programming aptitude. Are you still in university? If so, apply to google summer of code when it comes round next year, go for a CMS frontend or something similar.
Nah, I'm still 2 years away from college. I'll keep that in mind though.

This is assuming you already know how to write in javascript. You can, can't you?
Write a program to find the largest prime factor of a number. I don't want it to execute, I just want to see the code.
Um what? I definitely know that I can write in javascript, otherwise I wouldn't be looking into a javascript certification in the first place. :) I'm not going to bother writing that code because I know my capabilities and I certainly don't have to prove myself to you.

Thanks for the response.
You get better at programming through practice. If you don't want to practice and get peer review, you won't get better. Have a go at it, use psueodocode if you want.

Tech Talk / Re: Java

a bit, algorithms, etc... i just finished making a pong-like game, but i am still adding features.
Algorithms?

Give a sorting alogrithm for a a regular java array. Not array list. Account for empty values, don't look it up on the internet.
sorry, working on pong, and you didn't give me what kind of array, and what to sort it for.

Integers. And the normal kind of array, the one with the square brackets and fixed length.
How's the pong going?

Because you use integer types, decimal results are discarded, leading to answers like 5/2=2. Either remove the division option or change x and y to floating-point variables.

Instead of declaring how many times you want to play at the beginning, prompt the user if they want to play again. If the answer is affirmative, call a new method called question, putting the question segment of the code in it's own method.

Three week java course? That's intensive, do they teach you anything outside the language syntax?

Sorry. I know an even better language.

Takes jpg files as input. Instructions are defined by changes in colour.

Who needs Gravy Shield?
Gravy shields are rather easy to destroy. A single dinner, maybe with a side of turkey.

572 quanta. I think that's enough to play an otyugh.

Someday, Essence will get banned...
You see you've never had a problem before, but that one day that you do have a problem?
Personally I hate clunky tabs, and  i <3 chrome
For liking a decent browser?
There's a bug in upstream, screw you opera users?
If I were allowed to do that in my work, my life would be so much easier.

It's a figurative kick in the figurative face for those who literally spent hours on this game to go through the figurative and sardonically named scenic route before the figurative shortcut existed for the figurative distance between figurative Point A and figurative Point B. Literally.
They've already spent the time; they already have the reward. It's an even bigger kick in the face to all the new players. Did you know that I introduced eight people to elements? Did you know that they all balked and quit at the cost of cards and upgrades? There are other games out there, and setting up a grind isn't a very good way to get people to play this one.

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Re: False God Music

Boss music for the false gods? I'm voting for one winged angel.

Maybe play the abc's for level 0?
The abc would be funny but no one plays level 0 more than once
They don't have to. The first time is lulz enough.

The sideboard is a staple in tournament play for most CCG tournaments I visit, and it makes for great mindgames. It's quite a flaw in the game if you can identify a deck type by it's mark though- moar cards needed. The sideboard option wouldn't be amiss as an option in pvp either,

No, I don't think I'm confident in my ability to give a good value.
Im going to be frank and say I think any more than 10 a game on average is too much. Its not that hard to throw together a deck basd on the oracle card that wins decently. I think thats peoples main problem with dynamic income. The arena is enough of a cash cow as it is.
The arena makes electrum gain easy? Shock horror! Making this grind fest less harsh is a bad thing?
I thought people played this game for the fun of building decks and winning. Why would making that process cheaper be a bad thing?
