Coding: A nightmare to code a card costing multiple elements to play? Hardly. It is very easy to code and wouldn't be that much different from a card costing any number of random elements which are already in the game.
I said likely for a reason. I *think* I remember Chriskang saying somewhere that because of how the database is configured and such allowing for this would be VERY tenuous.
Correct.
Explanations here:

I don't say it's impossible. Just that it requires more time to create this feature than, say, design 10 new mono-element cards. And I'd rather see the second option come live than the first.

Playtest group consists of as posted already: 17 local Elements players
Would you mind posting some of their in-game name please RockSoulx?

Don't you play "Mono: one type of pillar only" ?

General Discussion / POLL: Theme For Our New Forum - Everyone Take a Vote!
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:32 pm »

I have to use a lot of words like "money" and "rich" in the title as well as dollar signs. Hopefully that will make him read/reply faster, and not get picked up by his spam detector :)
You think as a native speaker.
For us foreigners, most emails written in English with "rich" in the title go directly to the trash bin.

Actually, if we could find an Italian speaker willing to write the email for us, it would probably give us the best chances to catch him.

The time we save in not designing the whole thing ourselves, we can use to add content and features on our forums, which is always more important than eye candy.
We probably have a LOT of time ahead :(
Did you send your email to Zanzarino, SG?

I voted "none".
The top menus from Cargo or DSv4 look 10 times cooler than any of the above:
http://demo.dzinerstudio.com/smf2/index.php?theme=12
http://demo.dzinerstudio.com/smf2/index.php?theme=13

I know they're not free but I'm sure we can reproduce their effects easily when we design our own theme.

Meanwhile if somebody wants to develop a "Elements" style theme I can put it on this forum- and that theme port over to the new forum also. Just because we're waiting on approval doesn't mean we can't improve this site in the meantime.
I'm still unsure if I want a light text on a black background (like the game) or black text (like now).
What do you guys think?

The SMF For Free support forums were very clear on the "no backup, no transfer (http://www.smfsupport.com/support/general_support/general_support_faq-t4140.0.html)" issue, which seems a bit mean.
They don't provide tools to extract data from their database but they don't forbid to do it either. They're hosting this forum but don't own its content, so it's not legally possible for them to prevent you from copying everything in here, if you "find a way" to do it.

Would it be possible to just crawl through all the threads and the member list and build a database out of that?
Yes it's possible.

The URLs are all simple, and if it's a script run with admin access, all data should be available, no?
Everything EXCEPT user passwords. Even an admin doesn't have access to them. Therefore automatically recreating accounts won't be possible.

As you can see, there is a link directly to the game's main screen where you can access battles and whatnot. There is a direct link to the forums from the main screen as well, so you can freely jump between them. If we set it up like that, the forum would undoubtedly have more traffic, which of course means more ads and revenue for the game. It's also wonderfully themed after the game. :D
Maybe we could create a "design the new forum home" contest?
Users would draw their ideas in photoshop then present an image of the result and we would vote for the one we prefer?
Creating a theme/template for the new forum out of that image shouldn't be too hard.

Yahoo's suggestions are actually very similar to those:
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,161.msg1079#msg1079 (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,161.msg1079#msg1079)

IMHO, the 3 thread have related enough topics to be merged.

that much coding
I don't have the source code of the game, so my choices are actually very limited.
I change a few variables here and there but overall it's far from being "that much".
The most heavily modified realm has something like 30 bytes of difference with Zanzarino's trainer. That's 0.001% of the whole file :D

Anyway, I know that some players (including me) consider version 1.13 to be more balanced than 1.14 so I don't really feel like trying to fix this "bug".
