General Discussion / I think upgrade prices are too...
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:19 pm »

indeed , grinding plainly s...

People who say it gives any sense of achievement well they're partly right, but only partly.

I played WoW for 3 years or so (got finally bored:P). Grinding is major part of that game, but well, every idiot can grind, so to really achieve something people grind harder things (like X reputations) but those are still achievable by everyone and their brother and just show time invested (although you need to take part of every aspect of game).

In latest expansion blizzard introduced achievements, some of those are easy, some of those are harder, some are nearly impossible.

My main character had for example exalted achievement which was pretty much a lot and a lot of grind, but in my opinion it was worth only a fraction of my one of the server first hardmode pve 25 player fastest drake (consider - only 10 players from server's thousands had them while there were probably a lot more exalteds around).

One achievement was doable solo (well almost, anyway needed no real commitment or skill, only time) while other was about flawless and fast execution of multiple hardmodes of bosses, which only a percentage of people from server were able to do. And believe me, last 10 seconds of last fight for achieving it, gave so big ADRENALINE RUSH .. which you never get from grinding.

And that's why grind is bad - everyone can do it eventually, while something that takes brains to achieve can guarantee this specific elitist jerk feeling :P
(and i am nowadays grinding in this game here while watching a movie in other monitor, almost automatic, no real brainpower needed , definitely not mtg)

about prices - who cares ? would much more like to see mulligan - i lose to manascrews mostly , too big deck i guess :P

ahh, thanks, that finally explains things somewhat.

except of course, that unupgraded does same thing, except that there is much less chance to get anything so big that oty can't eat it right away.
and originally my idea was to use unupgraded elf instead of demon or mind flayer (not instead of upgraded elf) -, which both are very situational, while elf is more general, but scaredgirl likes to use ulitharid everywhere, searched for logical reasoning (not "play 2 weeks more" , but that's scaredgirl :P)

so how exactly do you control momentum+8/30 dragon+twinning it .. (or any other creature with no activated ability but big health and smaller attack)

cant destroy with maxwell
cant lobotomize (nothing to lobotomize)
while unupgraded elf changes it to either 5/5 mutant (which is easily controllable by oty/scarab) , kills it, or in 10% of cases might change it to something other (half of them scary tho)
also, in endgame when you have nothing to do with entropy, it's a good card to bounce up and down (although usually fireflies are good for that too)

either by freezing (not s permanent solution),
using upgraded elf (too big chance to get something scary),
bouncing ( then again, eternity is for antimilling yourself),
waiting until poison ticks it down (right..),

anything more ?

more?

Ok. Let's put it so

1. Using upgraded elf = good
2. Using maxwell's/ulitharid = bad
3. Using unupgraded elf instead of upgraded elf = bad
4. Using unupgraded elf instead of maxwell's/ulitharid = good.
5. Using 1 and 4 at same time = very good

and yes, i know, wrong thread :P

Didn't say that you can't use both, i do :P

Unupgraded as control (usually using on opponents creatures), upgraded for boosting my own.

Yeah, Gemini can go crazy sometimes and when he does there's nothing you can do. But generally I don't think he is that big of a problem with this deck. Some other Gods pose much greater threat.
unupgraded elf - mutate is much more versatile than lobotomize ..

btw. Why do people use maxwell demons and ulitharids ? Unupgraded elves perfom (with otys) kind of better (10% possibility to get something scary, but neutralizes all scary things, whatever A/D they have, or whether they have an ability or not)., while beforementioned creatures are very situational.

I prefer to run one upgraded and one unupgraded elf. As well as anubis and protected eternity and animated and twin universed pulvy :P ( ok, sometimes druids get a twin). Probably something to do with UBC love :P

Deck Help / Help with my rainbow deck...

change mark, time is good

remove 3 bonds - 2 is enough
remove 3-4 boneyards (i prefer only one, but i usually have one other shield in deck)
remove 2 elves - 2 is enough as well.
remove 1 oty - 3 is quite enough
remove arsenic (when you get some other weapon, that is)
remove 1 lava golem (or possibly both, it has no synergies)
remove FFQ - 1 is quite enough , usually when you get one out the quantums are not a problem anymore
remove 1 PU - it's utility but well, you can most probably play without (so maybe remove both)
remove 6 pillars - manaflood isn't good either

that leaves us with 39-41 cards

add 2 sundials - more draw
add some novas (4-6) - manafix, should give a fast start, cant be destroyed. So i prefer play them and pillars, not pillars only
add rain of fire - mass removal is quite useful in many places.
add 3-4 golden hourglasses - more draw

49-53 cards.

what you miss is eternity, to prevent milling self to death (go and farm top50 for that, foyle is very good opponent for that :P). Pulverizer is nice to have too. Comes from same place :P If you cant get opponent in top50 for some reason change browser (changed mine from firefox to chrome, and it started working )

Also protect artifact and animate weapon might be good ideas ( anubis + animated weapon , other weapon just protected)

The idea behind it is to have as small cardcount as possible (but cant exactly to put all needed combos into 30) to make key card probability higher. Key cards are those that give you card advantage (sundial/hourglass), also it's a control deck, so stalling is good too (sundial, phase shield)
