Incidentally, I agree with MrBlonde and Demagog...this should be quite the event.  Needless to say, I'm rather pleased with my own team as well.

Heh.  Understood.  I don't really say things on my own; I just respond to what others say.  That being said, it probably takes it further away from the topic.  It would be a lot easier for me if everyone else followed those guidelines as well.

Additionally, I find your two statements amusing by the fact that they contradict each other.  I mean, it's just one line, but maybe somebody responds to it, and it branches off to a less-than-related topic.  What if that were to happen?

It's sarcasm, but it's not misguided.  I realize that Air is one of the strongest elements for this event, as I realize that both of these teams have a distinct advantage in that respect.  What you don't appear to realize is that I don't actually think I'm going to beat all of you single-handedly.

"I do always speak as if I'm going to win."

This is a quote from what I said before, and it implies heavily that I think or believe otherwise, or at least that my thoughts or beliefs don't coincide with my speech.  This is a literary term called irony.  You may have heard of it.  In this case, verbal irony was used.  Let me make this abundantly clear for you, but don't take offense or anything, because I'm just assuming that you don't know everything about irony.  Irony means that the literal translation of what I'm saying isn't the same as the meaning behind it.  A common example of irony would be sarcasm, which is often referred to as "verbal irony".  In this case, what I'm saying would be the opposite of what I mean.

The point is, given the above quote, it was rather obvious that what I was saying was ironic, in one sense or the other.  In such a case, which it just so happens to be, I wouldn't be wrong as you claimed I was.  Which is why I used another form of irony to say that you didn't know what you were talking about; in this case, regarding my being right or wrong.

In conclusion...I'll probably have to use both of my hands.

I love it when people know what they're talking about.

Oh, we are starting the trash talking already?
Eh...honestly, I wouldn't consider it trash talk.  I don't say anything else that might be considered "trash talk", and certainly nothing so base as to offer what most people consider "trash talk", but I do always speak as if I'm going to win.  Which, by the way, I am.  In fact, we're probably going to win without a single match loss.  In fact, once my team wins, we're going to have a mini-tournament within ourselves and I'll win that too.  Without a single match loss.  You get the point.

I'm surprised vrt has the time to do this.
I think he'll be fine.

Besides, it shouldn't take long to single-handedly defeat all of you.

Novas count as Entropy, right?  So I could theoretically make a duo-deck with 15+% Novas and it would be considered a trio-deck that would work for this tournament?

Card Idea Competition Submissions / Re: Shard|Shard of Caution
« on: August 30, 2010, 01:37:50 am »
Zanz wants the Shard to be representations of virtues. The competition this card was created for requires you name your shard after a virtue from a list in such that your shard represents that virtue. See Here http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11099.0.html
Yes, and I understand that.  He decides which words to consider virtues, and makes a list of them.  Words that would be considered virtues by the common sense of a word.  Which again, I don't have a big problem with.  My problem is with what you were saying, that volatility is not a virtue in any case of the word.  This is not true.  In the form of word we're using it in, it would basically mean "a good or admirable quality or property".  Any quality or property can be considered virtuous, as all qualities or properties have both good and bad sides to them.  Being overly cautious is, quite obviously, a rather bad thing, and a bit of volatility can quite easily be a good thing.

Preety sure it wasn't on the list. Was it?
Correct. "Volatile" is not a virtue in any case of the word.
Volatility.  And I'm not sure exactly how you're defining virtues.  If you want to be the most specific, cardinal virtues include Prudence, Justice, Temperance, and Courage.  Sometimes, Chastity, Charity, Diligence, Patience, Kindness, and Humility are considered the Seven "heavenly" virtues, to oppose the seven deadly sins.  Faith, Hope, and Charity are all also virtues of a different kind.  I'm wondering how this list was generated, and more specifically, whether or not it was made by somebody who really understands virtues.  Volatility is just as virtuous as Readiness, Gratitude, Divinity, Caution, or any of the other accepted names out there.  That being said, if there's actually any reason behinds the words in this list, that would be enough for a theme, in which case you would be right and "Volatility" would be unbefitting as a shard.

Forum Game Archive / Re: Elements Mafia 13 by Killsdazombies

Spirit, no offense, but people probably voted for you because you're often rather... abrasive.
You think?

Three facts remain.

Firstly, the False Gods are at a disadvantage this game.  A rather large one.  The only way they are going to win is if they can kill off important roles early in the game.  My at-the-time-potential martyrdom was in one way an act of prevention.  I don't actually know how Elements Mafia works in this respect, but in most Mafia games I play, even the dead people "win" if their team wins.  So it's not all about just staying alive.  Sometimes you have to take one for the team, so to speak.  I didn't see myself as being particularly useful this round.

Secondly, I think my "abrasiveness", which I'm not denying the existence of, may indeed be a factor for at least a few votes thrown my way, but again, I'm not going to play only to stay alive (especially when my death would very possibly increase the chance of my team winning), and I'm certainly not going to alter myself or my actions for the sake of staying alive in a game.

And thirdly, in the world of Mafia, there are usually a few...unspoken rules.  To varying degrees of importance.  Perhaps not rules so much as things that you just shouldn't do. One of them, is, of course, that you shouldn't vote to kill somebody new to the game on the first day (at least not by the random-first-day-vote that this game uses).  The other relevant one is that you're not supposed to vote for somebody based on at least fairly irrelevant factors.  You don't vote for the guy that your girlfriend was cheating on you with, you don't vote for the nerdiest kid in the group, and you don't vote for the person that you percieve to be abrasive.  At least not for those reasons specifically.  Now, I'm not saying in any way that these are the rules of this game, or that any of you have violated these rules (which is kind of a given because they aren't strictly speaking rules).  It is, however, something that most professional Mafia (game) groups generally avoid.  It makes for overall fairly predictable, poor-quality gameplay. I am, however, saying that these sorts of "unspoken rules" are there for a reason.

So I said "never play mafia with amateurs", and people apparently hate me now.  I didn't call anybody here specifically an amateur, nor did I call everybody here an amateur.  And in fact, the people that were offended by this not only didn't realize these facts, but probably don't even know what amateur means.  It means you're not a professional.  Unless these people are claiming to be professionals, which I doubt (but can't disprove), then they shouldn't be upset over me calling them amateurs.  Which, again, I didn't even do.  And by the way, I was mostly calling the people that may have voted for me because of any "abrasiveness" amateurs.

And of course, absolutely nothing against you, Demagog.

None taken.
