Patch Notes and Development News / Re: Elements 1.27
« on: February 03, 2011, 03:24:54 pm »
Giving more elements permanent control, eh? Nice. Why not :aether next? :P

Great patch as always. Can't wait to try out Mitosis.
You must have  :darkness for Voodoo Doll
 :gravity for GravityForce
 :air for Shockwave
:water for Ice Bolt (and You must freeze Doll)

So You must use 4 cards, 4 elements to say that Shockwave is for PC... What is the sense of this change? Steal is easier, and You don't need othercards. Explosion the same...

In my opinion Shockwave should destroy Shields, IceBolt freeze weapons, and this duo is already good.
Now that you can freeze weapons with Ice Lance, you no longer need a VooDoo, so the combo can be pulled off with just :air and :water .

EDIT:: Ninja'd by BluePriest. >.>

I agree with Essence on this one.  This shield will add an option to every Element, and can be used in every deck, but will undoubtedly gather a lot of dust.  I haven't seen this much undeserved outcry over a single card since Fractal.  And that was even after Fractal had been in the game a good long time and Fractalmania had failed to woo over the masses.  So if this card gets used, well, that's a good thing because we don't want useless cards after all.  And if every deck ends up packing it, we'll know we have a problem.  But let's wait to see it actually "break the game" in real life before we get out the torches and pitchforks again.
You know, deep down, some things are not a big deal.
But those things occasionally just have a bunch of people making a big deal of them.

I agree with Essence. The change that this shield will cause to the game is virtually nothing. A couple decks may use it just to add in a but of defense, but it's nothing special.

I personally think that there's no reason to keep the themes and uniqueness exactly the same in all elements for the rest of the history of the game.

The only things that matter is that the card makes sense thematically in itself and belongs to an element that supports the theme.

Acceleration for example, is a card that people were complaining over just because they felt that fire is the ONLY element that powerful attack growth should belong to. However, the theme and mechanic and theme of the card make complete sense and it matches the theme of it's element completely as well.

I have seen similar complaints such as "I feel drawing cards is reserved for time." and "This card deals with randomness, so should be entropy." etc. etc.

But let's reverse our thinking for a second.

We are not taking away from the uniqueness of a particular element.

We are ADDING to the uniqueness of another element, giving it a specific theme it did not before.

I understand that this does not apply to this particular case, since it is an other card, but It's a point that I really feel should be put out and I feel this is the right time to do so.
QFT. It seems like the "Other" cards are getting a bit more love. It'd be nice to see a vanilla "Other" creature, too. Perhaps a 3/3 for 6 or 7 with no ability or something. Or perhaps that would ruin things, not sure. I'm just thinking of Artifacts from M:tG (I used to play Artifact decks a lot....>.>).

A little reasoning:

What is Dagger | Dirk? The cheapest weapon in the game. It's main trait is that this weapon has a 0 cost. Other non-elemental weapons are stronger, but they come with a cost.
Why is this card ignored? Because the cost increase for Longsword is ridicule. Any deck that uses "other" weapons is obviously rushing, as that's the only thing those weapons provide: cost efficiency. But the fact that you are limited to ONE weapon slot makes most rush decks use either Longsword / Gavel / Longbow or Vampire Dagger / Arsenic, depending on the amount of off-element quanta they have and on their mark. Even if the mark bonus was changed to, say, :life and :time and :water or something, this card won't see use over a Longsword, as one more damage is worth one more quantum.
What can be done to solve this problem? The fact is, if we don't alter this card drastically it's not playable. It can't outshine Longsword, and even if it did (say, 2|5 damage with the above bonus for :time), we're not sure it will really be used because of auto-mulligan screw-ups (one quanta to get more good draws? I can see that happening). Therefore, we need a different solution. An ability is the only thing that comes to mind.

A possible suggestion: dual-wield (if you play another weapon when this weapon is in play, add this weapon's attack to that of the new weapon).
This would see some good use, at least in rushes. It might even be balanced, although I'm not sure.
QFT. I support this idea completely. A Dual Wield skill for the Dagger | Dirk would be a very welcome change, and it would actually see use.

Death / Re: Skull Shield | Skull Buckler
« on: January 30, 2011, 05:16:11 pm »
This is what I got. Didn't test much yet, mostly Top50 and AI5, but wanted to throw it out there. Seems quite stable on first impressions, and I only lost one game (against AI3, oddly enough. I missclicked), because I didn't draw any towers/pends. Strategy is pretty basic: lockdown the enemy field with Skull Buckler and Aflatoxin, then Fractal the dragons and spam2win. Plaguing the Cells once there is boardlock could get you the quantum you need from Soul Catchers to spam more, especially if your dragons get killed and you have to Fractal again.

I'm confused. When it says "0.5/HP" does that mean that the chance is 0.5% divided by the HP of the creature, or is it 0.5% per HP of the creature? Or am I completely off track?

Take out a few grav pends and add in some explosions could be a possible change.
^ This. Also, perhaps a single Titan would round it out as well.

please limit the words you use to seven or fewer letters each, so we can all be on the same page.
Unfortunately, intrinsic opinions disallow proceeding thuswise.
I just L.O.L.ed so hard.

Uh.. of course it's true. I did it. If it's been fixed, good, but that doesn't affect my testing. Think a little, mm?
My pal DesertKnight did it with Dirks as well.

Heck, here's a ss of me doing it right now:
I got it working with Jade Staffs, and made a 40 card :life / :light deck that used that combo along with Sundials for stalling, and was able to beat a few FGs very consistantly, though the denying ones (Seism, Decay, Dark Matter, etc.) were almost impossible as I relied on Leaf Dragons for my :life Quantum.

OK, just got back to this thread, caught the ping and all.  I'm leaving a staff/titan farm up for the next 12-16 hours or so.  Good luck Unc and/or TII. :D
*glomps* You're awesome. I needed Titans, too!
