Earth / Re: Jobs
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:24:24 am »
Ah, I see we have an Earth section finally.  Good stuff, and hello all.~

Seems like we'll want our two best players to be lieutenant and substitute, sounds like demagog and $$$man?

I think I'd be fine with any of: Strategist, Vault Organizer, Deckbuilder, Salvager.

As I understand it, these roles are mainly just starting off the topics and making sure the relevant items get recorded/done/finalized etc.  The whole team participates in the discussions.  So I think I can do any of these, and if my first post doesn't win on it's own, then the team can help.

More time needed, 5-10 min I'd say.

Good game though.

I don't know what the current song is but don't you think "we will rock you" would be awesome for earth?
As far as I can tell, the current one is 'cliffs of dover' by eric johnson.  I guess cliffs = earth.  To my ears it sounds sort of like a country-esque instrumental (ie, no words).

There are no advantages for having good songs right?  If not I might have suggestions for several elements.

Here's a few other ideas for Earth's song (my new team^^).

Probably my favorite (light metal genre):
Samael - On Earth

It sort of goes with the banner ("you live on it") too.  If you know the lyrics to On Earth, and listen to it a few times it grows on you and gets more and more catchy.  It can be a bit hard to decipher at first so here's the lyrics:

----------

Lyrics to On Earth :
Before we could talk we were singing
Before we could walk we were dancing
Life is short but not a day is lost
The world goes round and round
And we go on and on...

Beijing to Amsterdam
Berlin to Buenos Aires
Sydney to L.A.
Rio to Abidjan
Stockholm to Athena
Dublin to Guatemala
London to Brasilia
Madrid to Philadelphia

Paris to San Francisco
Detroit to Warszawa
Moscow to Mexico
Oslo to New Dehli
Helsinki to New Orleans
Vienna to Ankara
Rome to Lisboa
On earth, we're all

Dancing with the hidden tribe
Learning to move and fly
Touching the sky with our hands
Longing to love to understand
Dancing with the hidden tribe
Learning to move and fly
Touching the sky with our hands
Longing to love to understand

New York to Tokio
Melbourne to Budapest
Prague to Jaipur
Shangai to Montreal
Vancouver to Singapore
Sofia to Johanesburg
Hong Kong to St. Petersburg
On earth, we're all

Dancing with the hidden tribe
Learning to move and fly
Touching the sky with our hands
Longing to love to understand
Dancing with the hidden tribe
Learning to move and fly
Touching the sky with our hands
Longing to love to understand

Other songs:
die for metal - manowar  - found it kinda funny

Older Classics:
Def Leppard - let's get rocked
AC/DC - hard as a rock

Nerf This Card! / Re: Black Hole | Black Hole
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:07:21 pm »
When putting together rainbows the gravity cards that tend to be on my list are Gravity Shield (nice against some fgs), Otyugh and Charger. No Black Hole. It's an underused card that only sees light in decks like Dark Matter due to fg powers that make it useful (try the deck yourself and fail epicly) or when combined with Discord, because Discord is great against monos, it really doesn't need Black Hole to ruin monos in the first few turns.

Obviously the effect of Black Hole on itself isn't that great. A lot of rainbows use supernovas and send out their stuff right away, faster than a Black Hole can drain them. I honestly don't think it should be changed. This is as deadly to rainbows as fractal devourers is to monos/duos, or even less so, unless the rainbow just sits on it's quanta rather than saving up supernovas untill it can use it's quanta, which is actually their fault, really.
I once tried to build a duo time/grav deck around getting dune scorpions to do something.  At some point I realized it was going to have to be a stall deck of some sort and I needed healing.  For a brief moment I thought I might fix the problem with black holes.

My delusion lasted about 1 fight against either a mono or duo deck, when it became clear that the healing gain was going to be too small to be useful.  I dumped them in favor of sod's and moved on.  The deck still wasn't that hot, but ditching the black holes was an improvement.

My attempts at finding a use for black holes have pretty much been failures (though I don't have a grav nymph).  But the same time, there's no reason for them to be as good as 3 times the strength of a nova (or 1.5 times a sn) plus at 36hp, potentially better than a sod or heal at the same time.  For that much power it would need to be equivalent in cost/power - 6 quanta for the upped version (3 for the heath, 3 for the 1.5 x anti-SN, not to mention the benefits of only using 1 card instead of 2).  There's no justification for giving all that at half the quantum price that it should cost.

However, having tried to make one, grav/time duo decks could really use some form of healing, but right now black hole isn't it.

I see blackholes as OP quantum stealers, and underpowered healers.  I'd suggest changing black hole to take less quanta, say 24, but in return do more healing, heal a base of 20 + quanta taken (so you'd end up with 20-44 depending).  The healing is the sorely needed part for duo's like time/grav, and it needs to be reliably as good at healing as a sod to be worth bothering with (especially when there's a high chance of facing a mono/duo enemy).  At that point, black holes become worth using in certain decks on a healing basis alone, and the quantum draining is an added strategic value.

lmao.

Every time I see the bombard skill it cracks me up.  Shoulda been a seagull though.

Ok, so I bothered to actually go through the slave market and find all the smallest players.

Here's the bottom 20 scores (and I listed 20 instead of 12, since some may have left, and you might want some choice involved as well):

As you can see, of the lowest 20 scores, just looking at electrum, only 8 meet the current criteria.  That's before looking at card counts and start times (which we know 1 of the 8, timerclock, fails on a cardcount basis as well, despite being the lowest score in the slave market).  That's at most 7, assuming they're all still around and haven't played at all since they posted.

Yeah, as of now it looks like I won't be able to get TimerClock unless I get a steal on someone higher.
Timerclock is almost small enough to qualify for the rookie spot.

- Started playing Elements less than 3 months ago - not sure how you'd know this
- Joined the forums less than 1 month ago - check
- Total number of cards is 120 or less. - 283, but maybe that req will go up?
- Total number of upgraded cards is 6 or less. - check
- Total amount of Electrum is 1,000 or less. - check

That's 3, maybe 4, out of 5.

I'm thinking the defnition of rookie might end up getting increased a little bit, as I'm not sure they'll be able to find 12 players that small who are interested.

I received bids as well.  Although, it is hard to tell if I'll end up on an actual team or if that is just a feint as part of the strategy of the masters while they use up their last bid slots.

=o

I guess I'm a newb (war newb for sure) so I'll apply here too, though I do have over 70k score and nearly 1k cards.  So not too new.

Slave market bid profile: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13280.0.html
 (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13280.0.html)

My original mark was water, and I started out by duo'ing unupped water and death for a long time.  Poisons/infections and freezing make a decent combo.  Eventually I ended up using an upgraded rainbow, but I still use poison as a secondary attack method (arsenic/deadly poisons).  So, I've used a lot of death cards in both upped and unupped decks.

I already have a lot of death cards which could be built into a deck, including 6 unupped arsenics.  I'm also saving up some electrum. I'll be able to build whatever deck is needed if I don't already have it.  You won't find it on my war profile (since it won't matter), but I have an upgraded death nymph too (and 4 other unlisted upped nymphs in case they suddenly become allowable, for a total of 7).

I'm around quite a bit, but I've only recently came to the forums here (the war finally convinced me to post here as it was the first thing that interested me on the forums).  The main reason for this is that I usually play through/reside on Kongregate.  I joined elements before it was linked to Kong, but never really used the forums back then, just the game.  I've built my own decks and strategies to this point as I like working things out (thus limiting needs for forums).

Cheers~

Buff This Card! / [Official] Red Nymph | Fire Nymph
« on: October 01, 2010, 12:44:33 am »

Suggesting this because I think the upped fire nymph is worse than unupped.  Either the upgraded one should be buffed, or the regular one nerfed.  It might not be an issue if you always assume it will only ever be played with a shard of readiness, but I'm not assuming that.

Right now, if you use the rage skill 3 times on upped, it's the same cost as 4 uses on regular (12 fire cost for the skills).

For 12 fire the regular card gives you:
4 times +5/-5.  Against opponent that's potentially 4 dead creatures, or -20hp total to a big one.  On your own creatures, that's potentially +20 atk total, and easier to use at all (ie, without killing your creature) due to only losing 5hp instead of 6, which makes it usable on more of your own creatures.

For 12 fire the upped care gives you:
3 times +6/-6.  Against opponent that's potentially 3 dead creatures, or -18hp total to a big one.  On your own creatures, that's potentially +18 atk total, and harder to use as it kills most creatures (even a number of upped dragons) that hasn't been grown in hp.

I suppose the regular is slightly more defensive, and the upped is more offensive in nature based on it's likelihood of killing the target.  The upped card has +1 hp as well, but I don't view it as important (although it is needed to use the +/-6 rage on itself).

//-Also, even the regular upped rage potion is the same cost as unupped (3 each).  So decreasing the usage cost on the upped nymph makes it similar to the rage cards.
