Rainbow Decks / Re: Maxwell's Bloodsucking Carapace
« on: September 08, 2010, 04:30:42 pm »
Thanks a lot.

I´m still toying around with the deck, trying different things. The early pulvy is key against Morte and the match is winable after that (usually if you draw the Pulvy too late then you are facing a 20 Bonewall+ that is almost impossible to penetrate before decking out.

Won against Eternal Phoenix with this, a match i´ve never won before with this deck. You need him to play his dragon so you can antimatter it to negate a couple Phoenix. The funny thing is that his Fire Lance became no problem at all since i destroyed a couple of his pillars early and he kept using his Quanta to rebirth his phoenix - which died to the Buckler. Got lucky i could get a quinted mindflayer into play to prevent too many of them to rebirth. Its still a very unfavorable matchup - but there is a chance to beat him.

Card Ideas and Art / Re: Hydro Lord | Hydro Lord

It is a good idea for an ability but gonna be very tough to balance since one of your card can negate so  many of your opponents cards almost effortless.

Artic Squid can do the same thing but it does this over several turns, several activations -> costs a lot more Quanta to keep multiple creatures locked down and would require at least one other to accomplish what your idea does right now.

Gonna be a pain to balance this.

I love the art and the idea is nice. I got some balancing concerns though (don´t take it personal).

So you got 1 creature that prevents one + up to 8 creatures from attacking you the next turn if i get that right. While you could power that with 1 Pillar and a mark. Seriously ?
You could play quints instead of your Shields then and be next to invulnurable by turn2.

The Defense is way too high for a "ability" creature like that. Its immune to most CC like that.
The Attack is too high for a) a water creature that isn´t a "vanilla" (no ability) b) its ability is too strong to have a body like that for just 6 :water.

It is way overpowered as it is.

suggestion:
3 :water Freezes the target and got a 20% chance to freeze anything next your target.
Also lower the attack and especially the defense.
Take a look at artic squid: (which should be simmilar to this)
Its no real threat on its own and delays your opponent.
You play it because of its ability and not because it has got a good ability + build in CC protection + is a decent beatstick while making you waking you up in the morning with a fresh coffee.
It does what it is supposed to do - delaying, and not carrying the game home for you all by itself.

Nice idea. Would love to see the card ingame.
Do you think 3 is the right number ? I know it depends on your opponent how usefull it is actually going to become.-3 Poison per turn might become a "hard counter" to Poison based decks.

I would suggest to lower the activation cost and slightly lower the ammount of poison it removes, and maybe add a slight bonus upon using (+1/+2) maybe just to reward the highly situational use.

Just a suggestion, the original concept is fine though.

Good call. I think the idea is overused but would suit the "acid" theme.
How do you call that passive again ?

What would you suggest ? Voodoo doll is not lobo-able and got a simmilar function (you don´t want to target it if it is against you). So i guess it is not lobo-able for now.

I don´t see a broken combo yet that should make it active (lobo able).

Note: Immolation/Cremate could make it poison whenever you want.

Exactly. Its easier to stop when it is alive (Freeze, Permafrost Shield etc) than it is dead because of the way poison is working.Twin Universe should be fun with this.

That should happen, yes. But pretty much anyone beside the AI would wait for a buff card before you play it. Except Butterfly Effect maybe. It is intended to work that way.

thanks for the feedback.

You are forgetting it can still attack. So you got your -1/1 AO, bless it and it deals 2 Damage per turn, that s not impressive i know. But there are a lot of buff cards out there so it won´t stay 2/4 for long.As bigger as it gets the more your opponent is forced to handle the creature and when it finally dies you are left with a much bigger problem , the poison. There is currently just 1 way to get rid of it and that is Purify, and most decks don´t run it. And something like 10+ poison out of nowhere is nothing to laugh at.

This way your one trick pony deck (like Pegasus+Blessing) even gets something out of your "wasted" buff cards after the creature dies. Turning Pegasus/Blessing major flaw (you spend like 3-4 cards to buff your creature and after it dies you run out of steam to finish your opponent).

The main reason that its attack has to be below 1 is Fractal. Extreme low cost + a creature that does something on dying would be overpowered.the -1 definatly prevents any Fractal abuse - you would have to go for Twin Universe to get more out of it. Another reason the attack has to be low to prevent going "overboard" with the current copy cards and ones that might follow later.

seism cant use pulvy so thats one thing you dont have to worry about
Whow i haven´t realized this and actually quit a game early because of it  :o . Amazing how much impact to the game this card has to force me to autoquit a game once i can´t get rid of it.
That should make it easier.

Btw here is the "new" version.

Maxwells Buckler V3.9
Code: [Select]
6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6qq 6rn 6rn 6rn 6rn 6rn 6rn 6ts 6ts 6tt 6tt 6tt 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u7 6u7 77f 77f 7ah 7ah 7ah 7dl 7dl 7dl 7q5 7q5 80h 80h 80h 80h
jmdt suggested adding Spectres instead of Golems and it turned out to be a good choice.I´ve also added another Nova to fix the occasional Quanta issues and dropped the Carapace again for another Buckler. Its working better each day and is already a viable false god farmer, not as good win% as the tweaked to perfection ones, but its quite fast to make up for that.

The overall win% went up by a bit and the unfavorable Dreamcatcher went closer to beeing a coinflip matchup.Sacrificed my Pulvy + 2 Hourglasses to get rid of the Butterfly effects (bait) so the creatures hurt themselves enough to get into Deamon range. There is still no way of getting rid of Devourers / Fate Eggs so its tough luck when those are getting targeted with Butterfly Effect. If that happens it is usually over unless you got enough damage on the table to race fast enough.

There are still some major issues against Morte since you can´t bypass/break his Bonewall.I didn´t have that problem with my usual farm deck and really want to fix this somehow.

Boneyard was the first thing i´ve tried (its also a nice speed increase) but that only makes the problem worse. Plague or anything on the Skelletons and that wall is never going to go down in time. Also you sometimes Afla yourself with it (can´t play creatures).

I´ve also tried to squeeze a Fractal or two in there but that didn´t work out as well as i thought it would be. Maybe jmdt finds a solution.

Take a look at KOTH (slowly finding the best T50 deck) (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11882.0.html) and compare it. You gave a run down of why the cards are in there but didn´t say anything about its "qualities" (winratio/turn to win etc).
How come its the "Guaranteed Best Top-50 Deck" mentioned in the title ?

NOTES:
It is supposed to be combined with buff cards  ("Blessing","Chaos Power etc) and maybe even copied after that via "Twin Universe".

Edit - changes:
Adjusted the stats from -1/1 - 0/1 to 0/3 - 1/3. discuss!
Removed the "Poison if ingested" part because of balance concerns.

At its current 1 :entropy it should be easy to splash by just changing the Mark to Entropy. A Light deck could gain access to poison via Blessing this way(odd isn´t it ^^) .

Interactions you should keep in mind when reviewing:
-Immolation/Cremate/Rage Potion could kill it instantly whenever you need it.
-Chimera does the same while providing you a momentum creature (after it is buffed of course)
-Blessing/Chaos Power to make the card "useable"
-Twin Universe
-The current effect is passive so it would be a very good Butterfly effect target.

Thanks to miniwally who provided the "frame".I got my a** up and finally reworked the artwork.

Alright people, tear it apart!
