OOC: I thought of doing individual battles among the party members, but came up with something more Twilight Zone-y. Let's see if it works for you.
Light. Darkness. Aether.
On the 3 corners of an equilateral triangle, 3 softstone chairs were placed. The elementalists one by one silently took their posts. The half-nymph shut the only entrance to this conference room.
The only exit for that matter.
mAX removed the stool placed for himself from the middle of the setup. He crossed his legs into a seated position on the hard smooth granite floor. He suddenly jumped up into a standing position. Everyone else stood up with him. The air electric with surprise. maX held out his hands in front of him, "I'm sorry, I got skittish. I need to do some calisthenics. I'm sorry if I caught you off guard." He proceeded to do several push-ups and other acrobatics. His balance and flexibility were quite impressive for a husky guy.
The shadowed figures at the periphery grumbled amongst themselves and settled back into their seats.
At the point of connection, a flash of hot pink blinded their individual thoughts into an echo of each other's memories. They are now all children inside a single child. Each experiencing all their childhoods as it had happened, as it was happening now.
They/He was looking at their/his mother/s, "Now, child/angel/beloved/booboo..." She looked stern, concerned, upset and loving all at the same time.
"Y-Y-Yes, mother??" He/They felt so sad, angry, frustrated, embarrassed.
"Haven't we told you NOT to do what you did? What you did... You don't do things just because you can. How many times have I told you not to heal a dead animal... steal... use mind control... play too deep in the woods?? Why must you disobey us?"
...
"Come here."
He/they ran towards his/their mother/s, hugged her tight and sobbed.
Each scenario rushing by, rewinding and playing forward, happening again and will happen, as if it did happening or was happened. Time was immaterial and no longer linear as they KNOW it was. Until there was no more thought but pure feeling.
The four men were all sobbing in quiet spasms in the same fetal position. All their movements were in synchronicity. Even their breaths rose and fell at the same time. Sirenes was alarmed and slumped on the floor beside her guardian. She cradled his head into her lap and felt his warm tears soak into her thighs. Nyxia was beside herself in confusion, she had never experienced this level of sympathy before. She began to be anxious for her own sanity, but more than herself... she was disturbed that she was actually afraid for her lover. She didn't want to reach out to him. She was afraid that she might trigger a disturbance in whatever phenomenon was happening in the mental states of the 4 powerful men in front of her. She never felt herself to be so... weak and powerless.
Zanthos was standing with his arms crossed, clenched teeth behind the thin lips, his face a mask seeming to be guarding the door either from escape or from intruders.
"I am / You are / This is... Destiny."
And, everyone in the room felt the kind of emotion that only a mother could have for her long lost child. The silent mewling of the grown men continued from the dream-reality into just mere plain abject reality. As the sniffles died into awkward silence, the group hardly acknowledged each other's presence. One by one, the party broke up into their rooms as Jonathan declared in a thought to... just meet again tomorrow. The first to go was Zanthos, each step deliberate and meaningful. Jon took Nyxia's pale, cold hand and led her through the doorway. Xanriel accepted the assistance from Sirenes as if weakened by an injury no one could see. Heimdall took his time looking back into the room searching for something that wasn't there before stepping out, absent-mindedly leaving the door ajar.
max was left alone still on the floor looking unconscious. Dexter crept into the room. MaX recognized the presence and sniffled into a butterfly. It glided onto a blood-stain bloom among the spectre's thorns and stayed there.
Take us somewhere safe, Dex.
