Nerf This Card! / Re: Toadfish

I don't think it's too theoretical to state that people will go for cards with speed over cards that may be strong but cost too much to play. That has held true in every CCG I've ever been a part of, MtG included. There's certainly been a lot of cards that have rolled through the card factory of MtG that have been great cards at the outset but their costs to play were ever so slightly more than could be allowed to make them viable for solid tournament play.

But I digress. I may be stretching here, but Toadfish has that feel to it. It's a solid card and looks  as though it's OP, but if that were the case it'd be in every FG rainbow and PvP deck that can support the cost. It's not and I think that speaks for itself. Like I said, I was simply pointing out an observation.

Perhaps dramatically increase the amount of allowable upped cards? Generals can have totally upped, Lt.s can have up to 75% upped so on and so forth.

Yes, I would like to definitely participate, and yes I am completely upped, but, no, that does not mean I would say any differently if I wasn't completely upped. ;)

I was just simply stating that looking at the cost of a card that is somewhat over the norm, assuming 4 cost is a norm or average, can also be a factor for whether or not said card sees more or less action. If Miracle cost less, you'd likely see more of it in a deck. More me just making an observation about the "cost to play" perspective on using certain cards than anything else.

A thought for what it's worth...

Whatever the merits of an individual card may be, the specific cost to play a card is a huge factor to. Consider for a moment that a card does something extraordinary, say does 100 hp in one hit. But the cost is 40 Time quanta. Sure, the card may be way OP, but the chances of seeing several played at once is extremely low.

I know that's a huge exaggeration, but the point is valid. Though the Fish may not be on par for cost, it's cost at 5 quanta, unupped, is still rather high so it's very unlikely one will see it ever outrush decks that are based on rushing. simply because the Fish is more a control card. And consider it's effect. It can kill creatures, but over time, not instantaneously like Oty.

I honestly think the lack of dominant decks that are built around the Fish is enough of an argument that it needs no nerf. Maybe if Fish decks were running rampant in PvP and tournaments all over the place and were directly affected by the them I'd be more inclined to say otherwise. But the fact is, though they may be a powerful card in their own right, they just don't live up to the hype.

Meh, I sit on the fence myself. I forget more than anything as to why I am not a Farm or Harm more often. If I do put up a farm, I alternate between biter and donator. I like it to bite because I know I had fun against biters in my day and I like to donate because it makes for more interesting matches in PvP if my opponent can make more decks as a result of having more rares to work with or card to buy from the bazaar. All in all, I never feel it's my responsibility or duty to put up a Farm or Harm, but I do feel charitable from time to time ;)

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Re: Change how the Oracle works
« on: November 26, 2010, 02:43:40 pm »
Just to be perfectly clear, I never once said the Oracle should grant cards and electrum every time you get to talk to the fat man. I just said I felt the Oracle should be a lot more consistent on information everyday. Knowing what the next FG and pet will be won't do anything except give people a once-a-day increased chance to beat at least 1 FG. Even then, the chances aren't increased too much. I know there are many decks designed to beat specific FGs and knowing the next FG you're going to fight will allow you to prep accordingly, but that's no guarantee you'll win. I think many peeps here can attest to the fact they knew their next FG, knew their next pat, used the forums to put the best deck to beat that FG and went in to fight said FG confidently... only to lose.

So, please don't confuse my OP with asking for tons of electrum or cards. I would just like the fat man to be a lot more consistent in predictions and allow everyone a fighting chance against just 1 FG everyday instead of sporadically.

You're not the only one. Iv'e done everything I know of to run it and it fails for me all the time. Granted I'm not uber computer savvy, but I know way around enough and I just don't know what else to do. As such, I am still editing my cards manually.

Granted. After he pummels his opponent in a game Go Fish, he loses horribly to the Saints

I wish Thanksgiving turkey was made of jelly beans.

Competitions / Re: Voting: Rock, Paper, Scissors Competition
« on: November 25, 2010, 01:15:22 pm »
I think the problem here is that no matter how you cut it, the competition ultimately asked for 3 decks; decks where one that "reliably" beats one and loses to the other. Even if the winning one wasn't Q's, you would still have the same situation, just with a slightly better chance of not losing as fast. Where Q's deck is like bringing a penknife to a gun fight, all the other submissions would just upgrade the penknife to a machete. In the end, you still have a knife in a gunfight, just a bigger knife.

There's a difference between copying what one CCG does and implementing it compared to using a mechanic found in one CCG and adapting/converting it to fit in Elements. The only reason I was somewhat against it was it was too similar to a common feature in MtG. As such, if it had been incorporated into Elements, people would begin to akin Elements to MtG more and more, especially if other MtG mechanics found their way into Elements.

But, that's not to say looking at a mulligan rule from MtG, or any other CCG, and modifying it to work in Elements is not a bad idea or frowned upon. Only that any additions that are derived from other games should be changed so that, though they may hold similarities, they are unique enough to Elements that Elements can claim ownership over it.
