General Discussion / Re: not enough unupgraded rainbows!!
« on: December 05, 2011, 08:37:26 pm »
The game is a bit more complex then less cards = more likely you draw the card you need.

Although in the unupgraded land a 30 card mono deck is very fast, there is a lot more to it.

First, there are two pressures not just one pressure to speed.
1.) Is the deck odds, but 2.) is the electrum needed and cast cost of cards.

Second, there is a mulligan that changes the odds of the first draw.

Third, there are cards that effect both, time and electrum, thus effecting the odds of a card in play drastically.
This obviously changes deck dynamics, being able to draw 3 or 4 cards, drastically changes odds of a deck

Fourth, you can deck out and so smaller is only better if you can get a quick kill in.

To make the point, I decided to throw together a 0 real thought 40 card unupped/ norare except a single weapon as if per quest bow deck just for this thread...
So I selected 6 novas, some quantum pillars and then proceeded to just select various cards that cost very little that might make something come together, tossed in a fractal and tried it out.  I did 10 games against AI3, 0 were EM, 4 easy wins, 3 were close wins, 2 deck out where close to deck out wins, and 1 loss ... not too shabby, wouldn't hold against a mono poison death deck, but could probably beat mono frog deck or mono fire depending or draw order of both parties.

Here is is, play with it from there OP

General Discussion / Re: Is this game worth playing?
« on: December 05, 2011, 03:04:19 pm »
Zeful, and in general the community: Their seems to be a lot of defensiveness going on in this thread :(

Zeful, the community is not talking down to you, it's the same advice they give to themselves,  it might seem that way; because some of them are quite young and it was a wonderful exciting thing for them to figure out what was probably very simplistic thing for you.

On the flip side, community, no need to let Zeful's reaction cause you to be defensive, he is approaching this topic in a different aspect then most and so the standard advice is not needed.

As a former developer, I'll approach this in the manner that I think Zeful is thinking.

From a development standpoint, I would consider this game's development method as likely an agile process, free version micro content, ccg game.  I would say the game would be a beta in the way google uses beta.  Most of the elements are said to be considered incomplete.  The developer has only recently started storyline like themes.  (Right now is the Shard War)  Many of the coolest things about this game aren't even directly integrated or obvious.  Unlikely many of these games, this one is FREE!  This is why the development seems off to you. Typically in a ccg, be them online or actual in hand cards, the card advantage exists in those who could drop the most money into the game.  Since elements is free, then you pay in the form of time.  Instead of spending a large sum of money on magic cards, you spend 80 hours or so on the grind.  It's up to you if your time is worth it and if you are asking is this game worth playing then it probably is not.

If you want to knit-pick individual problems or found something difficult and react so defensively at the community trying to help you, then at this point your just trolling.

Either way, I don't recommend elements for you.

I've done this at least a half dozen if not a dozen times.  In the middle of grind, start zoning out just clicking through and I accidentally a link and boom, there goes the game, and I get a loss, and possibly a lost turn with a pet.  It's not huge, but when it happens it sure is infuriating.  I've calmed down through the years, and now I just get: I am disappoint.  But I can imagine some young kid who hasn't been tempered in life yet go into smash rage; resulting in, one less elements player because his mom and/or dad did not appreciate the monitor getting chucked out the window.

EDIT: Silly me forgot the solution, but have the link open in a new tab/window.

 :darkness  :gravity  :entropy
Ended up with my vote.
When I play Darkness FEELS like darkness and when I go against decks with Darkness, I FEEL it's shadow.

It has a couple good synergies even when the cards don't lean towards it, it's cards are still useful.
 :entropy :darkness
 :death :darkness
 :time :darkness
Obvious Synergies
But  :life :darkness or  :aether :darkness
not as obvious, but pests, with mitosis or fractal pests,  once setup can be hard to stop
or  :darkness :earth perm denial to the extreme...

It can stall two ways both mana delay, and creature delay/denial.
It can heal multiple ways.
It can do serious damage multiple ways.
Has lots of little tricks up it's sleeves
It can protect itself
It has STEAL, both Perm denial and the ability to use them against them, only Aether has and a lucky Pandemonium can pull that off.

Gravity feels like GRAVITY, as in something heavy is pulling on you.  Titans, Dragons, Overdrive and BlackHoles feel oppressive, like, how the F do I block that, oh yeah I can't...  Where are those reverse times, where is that damn elf, F me...  Yeah I got one,  oh but he just took all my mana, son of a ...  It's not creative, it's not the most synergistic, it's not much of anything other than hard hitting like the ground after you fell from an airplane.

Then Entropy, it feels like Entropy, it runs like entropy.  It slows you down, goes to the edge of physics and starts warping things, unlike Darkness or Gravity that I fear getting smacked with a mono Entropy feel's easy...  Entropy by itself simply runs out of steam, which is basically entropy at work.  Entropy with anything else is pure chaos smack down...

It's what fuels the speedbow, it has a home in any rainbow, it can rush, deny, or creature control with the other elements...  It's the perfect partner with another element.  Oh and it's got antimatter...  DAMN I LOVE/HATE that card sometimes...

A solid honorable mention is  :time and  :aether
Both have some unique great abilities
I personally love time, but I feel as if it doesn't completely play right, Eternity is it's heart, but it's creatures are off, Pharaoh, Ghost of the Past, Time Egg, Deja Vu, none of these FEEL like it's element quite right...  Deja Vu, kind of, but past that, sorry.  I feel these cards should effect time, like cause delays in other cards, or have multiple attacks, or come out with a three turn delay and wait out to become a bad ass.

Same with Aether, I feel it's also lacking proper feel, It's like they took a bit of each of it's various meanings through time and slammed it together,  Aether feels like something solid and firm, it should feel as if it's raw, immaterial, and abstract...  Take the feel of water for example, and apply it to the extreme, where Time messes with Time, Aether should mess with matter.  Cards that cause creatures to fade out and in, pass through shield or make weapons immaterial, creatures should pop into play almost randomly or be made of out pure energy.

Other elements suffer from similiar feelings, fire should be hot to play with so to speak, it's got it's burn but only so far, fire burns as long as it's fuel source is still there and is hard to control...   It's got the heavy fast damage feel but that's about it.
Death, similiar, death should have 4 heads so to speak, and it only shows two...
Life, life is dynamic, life here to static, life is not all about little creatures although mitosis started getting it in the right direction.
Light, light has pretty good representation, but it doesn't counter darkness as well as it should, granted it has a couple cards targeted against it, but it almost feels like Life, but in a different form, Life and Light are not the same...  but here it plays similiarly.
Earth feels like earth, but it's incomplete, and it's synergies feel out of place...  Earth and Water for example should have very powerful synergies, there are none...  instead you find it's synergies outside it's tradition family of elements, earth and gravity, earth and time...  it feels as if it's not at home.  Air and Water probably have the tightest realization, such as freeze/shockwave combo...

So that's why I chose what I did...  sorry it's wordy.

Happy Holidays to the Elements community and staff!!!

I'm going to make my first donation to elements this holiday season.  (I'm pretty sure I've cost a few hundred in cpu and packets over the time of my play.)

I've come to post this to also drum up support from other community members because as we all know, this is a great game!!!  Let's let the staff get a bit of a bonus to buy a decent meal and maybe guilt them into producing a few more cards a bit quicker ;)

Natually, don't give what you don't have, the economies of the world are hurting (except maybe Indian and China right now)  But, I've find myself in a position where I have a few extra bucks and if you do too I encourage you to send some of it to these people and keep Elements strong.

I know where you were heading but I'm hijacking it a bit.
- 3 BBloods -2 Golems

+2 SNovas - Enter the start of a speed bow
+2 Forest Specters - Time to get some growers back
+1 Feral Bond - After a bit of fractalling should be big heal to catch back up for shot at EM

Yeah still a while to go, but enter the rainbow.

- frogs (shifting the deck away from green rush, going with darkness theme)
+ vampire dagger (add weapon damage and recover some previously lost healing ability)
+ 2 steals (perm control)
+ 2 pests (more shadow means we need more mana, alternative source outside of pillars for pillar killers still allowing vampires out and use of steals)

Thx, for the best wishes, and CreeperofDreams seems more foreboding but in a disturbing kind of way.  Remind me to stay away from your mind.

Been in the game for around a year, can't play too long though, life kind of happens, but I usually get 3 to 6 games in a day.
New to the forums though, been lurking for about a week and decided to start contributing.
So new to the community newbie while, something of a journey man in the actual game:

Current stats
Wins 1020 Losses 437 Ratio: 70%
Cards Total: 1210
Rare Cards: 51
Upgraded: 61 (Yes, I've sold a lot of upgraded cards, I know it doesn't make good money sense, but I went for what I thought was going to be a great level 4 possibly FG grind deck and it turns out to work well, it's similiar to the CCYB/Non-Upgraded FG decks out there, but my own with my own personal touch that makes it about a >90%win rate against level 4 and can beat some platinum/FG...   Since then, I've dumped my money into non-upgraded cards to support better arena decks and have play around for fun decks, I've nearly completed that quest just a few more grinds away, then it's upgrade time!!!)
Score 37095: Arena Level 49 (MidLevel Gold)

Hope to have some great chats and get to know some of you!

General Discussion / Re: Some encouraging for mono/duo fighters needed ..
« on: November 20, 2011, 09:26:00 pm »
Hey,  been a lurker for a long time, finally decided to start posting.
I've been at this game for a little over year now, only about 1450 or so games though, as I only have time to play 3 to 6 games a day.

Over the past year I've noticed the uncreative trend in elements players too... but I've noticed something else too.

Basically the collective 'prefered deck' happens, then it changes within a few weeks.  When I started, sundial was recently nerfed, mono fire was constantly being played, then it seemed everyone started doing was shrieker decks with earthquake/quicksand, so then it seemd countered with speedbow decks featuring immoliation/phoenix then ,  then frog decks...  oh god everyone played shrieker and frog decks, then aether decks, then shadow decks, then Golem decks, then nightmare...

I think the point is made, the pvp was always counter/recounter.

The reason I think is there are two few types/ability/and number of cards per element still, and just a few card adjustments completely change how games are played, and that is where the the speedbow rush with blackholes that everyone is playing come in. What you are seeing is the effect of the shard war. So, far it's really hurt delay and deck out decks and somewhat hurt mono decks.  Divinity and gratitude were nerfed, readiness buffed, void whose sole purpose seems to be to overcoming the delay and the other two aren't that useful. Result: speedbow.  Look at the upcoming shard, speedbow will only be further buffed.  I think the developers are aware that the game balance was lost in this last round of updates, they started having people vote in the arena if a deck had any creativity in it, my hope is the developers will see this and respond with the rest of the shards in the shard war accordingly.  Until then, I've been staying away from pvp, just doing level 4 and periodically FG grinding adding cards to my collection in general, until next month or two comes along and hopefully the balance is restored.

My suggestion hang in there, it happens sometimes, not a single CCG or Strategy game has not been subject to this, Magic the Gathering had a lot of rough runs, with the first being lotus/channel/fireball 1 turn kill back in the day, WCIII when first launched was all demonhunter/huntress rush, rush all but the undead and win in 5 minutes, if undead stop by the shop and pick up a wand of devastation (I think that was it's name) and wait a bit for the necromancers, proceed to pwn.  That was until the first couple patches.  Depth is hard to achieve until you see how everyone plays the game.  Elements even though being around for a while has a long way to go but so far they haven't stumbled too hard.
