The question of Jesus being the Messiah brings about the Lord, Liar Lunatic argument...
Jesus claims to be Lord: These claims are either true or false...
If Jesus claims of being Lord are true, then he is Lord; If the claims were false, He is a liar, and if He did not know His claims are false, then He is a lunatic.
First, you can rule out the possibility of Him being a liar. Jesus was a man that lived a very virtuous life. He was selfless, loving, and compassionate because He wanted to bring about the Truth. Liars lie for personal gain, but Jesus gave up everything for His followers (Even His own life!). Second, there is no real motive for him to lie. His teaching brought Him hatred, rejection, misunderstanding and death. There is real no purpose for Him being a liar.
Next, Jesus can not be a lunatic because because He possess the opposite qualities of a lunatic. Jesus had love wisdom, creativity, etc., while lunatics lack these qualities... A lunatic does not make you feel challenged, he only makes you embarrassed and eventually bored. Jesus made everyone feel challenged and never bored. Secondly alunatic would not fool people for very long by claiming to be God. In Jesus' case, He was able to persuade Jews (those who would least likely worship man as a God) and make them believe His divinity. Jesus was therefore not a lunatic.
Jesus was not a liar because of his moral teachings. Jesus was not a lunatic because he had wisdom, love, and creativity. Therefore, there is only one option left, Jesus must be the Lord.
