« on: September 04, 2010, 04:14:08 am »how about the scoring? All the sports that I know have some form of scoring to see who wins and how much they win by. In chess, there is no such thing. Sure, you can count your pieces, but just because you have less pieces doesn't mean you are losing. You could be in a much better set-up than the opponent. In sports, there is an obvious winning team and losing team, and you can tell who's winning throughout the entire game. For example, golf has scores, tennis has scores, volleyball has scores, soccer/football has scores... chess... you can only really decide whether someone is winning if they are quite far ahead.Though humans (unlike computers) cannot determine precise, concrete scores for positions, experienced players can easily discern the nature of the position, and whom possesses an advantage (if any), by reviewing all the relevant factors.

What if humans never existed?!
Here's a what if for ya, imagine Zheng He (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zheng_He) had made it to America before Columbus.
However, whether his theories have a good basis is uncertain.

There was a very tangible and audible sound in the air now: sounds of buzzing.
He paused.
More sounds, but this time, in the form of coherent speech.
"We are pleased.
The strange one has brought us to two others.
We are placing colonies of lice on the others now.
Perhaps one of these is Luna. Perhaps one of these is Jupiter. Perhaps one of these is the Sun God. Perhaps one of these is the stranger.
We are very pleased."
Operael, I am detecting something very strange.
Upon his description, Operael replied,
You're right; it does ressemble a collective of insects, though in vast numbers, and apparently capable of psychic communication. Most curious; I do not believe I have seen such a being before. However, this is a potential threat; you should scan your surroundings immediately.
"Do you hear that, stranger? There is a buzzing speech in the air."
