Just popping in while I have some internet.
I'm very happy to see that my replacement has managed a win. Congratulations on being undefeated! =P

Thoughts:

Time: We can probably pseudocide and still win. We should put aside some of our important cards that we don't need for our other matches, and make sure we can with with them. That way we can both eliminate them and hang on to some cards.

UW: We can probably do a BH deck and crush them. Phase dragons for damage, some dims, and BH. This way we can, again, focus on other matches.

Entropy: Their only deck is a grabbow -- is what I'd like to say, but I doubt they'll pull it. We've taken a grabbow counter for so many rounds that there's no way they'll take it IMO.
I expect upped dragons, maybe some AMs, and nova for splashed CC/deflags.

Death: We have access to 5 purifies. Heck, that's already enough to wreck half their strategies. Since we only play one match I would bring them. Wings is also an option (We should save the PUs though).

Fire: Lost on this one atm. 3 matches is a lot.
Agreed with UW and time. Not so sure about entropy.
Death: EQ Novagrabby with purify seems like a good bet. Might take a bit of magic to make all the parts work.

Oh good, I felt bad for (...) because I had a lower score but was picked for the team regardless.
In addition, he's not a hit-and-run, since he's obviously still active on the forums. Would it be frowned upon if I helped strategize in #aether after I lose secret forum access?

Hopefully sevs will win (might be a long shot, but who knows), which I believe will knock death down to 2 decks.
You know, with everything that went wrong this round, I don't think we have much to complain about. Maybe another team can do the dirty work and take down death for us (looking at fire lol). We'll have to wait for matchups to be posted, but hopefully we get the lion's share of weak teams.

In the meantime, EQ grabbies is an avenue we should explore against death. When I tried to build one, it worked well against EQ/SS but failed miserably against other decks. This only happened because I was trying to make a deck that could be used twice.

Though, what I think we should focus on until the event comes out are creative solutions with lesser-used cards for the teams that can only field one deck. This could be the key to maintaining 8 working decks, at least for this round.

I would prefer pseudo-suicides (yes I'm going to help out until I leave or get replaced). Yes we lost a lot of PUs, but we can salvage 3 phoenix and 5 deflag. We should still be able to run 8 decks, one may be weaker but have a good chance to win against ONE remaining deck (read: EQ Hema Dragon). That said, any team down to 1 player will have the most predictable vault, so if we can find creative ways to win against said teams without using up too many lightnings, we can probably pull off 8 decks.

For now, keep crossing your fingers for a good event card.

lol, nice new signature Higs. Who wouldn't want to join the aether revolution?

Regarding SS: Since the opposing deck has so many shields, I would like to make use of those momentums, but without quint or QPs I can't seem to find a way. I posted an EQ grabby in this round's topic (or it can be found in the pasties) that was pretty effective against EQ/SS. It would require thorough testing and tweaking because the AI is mentally challenged, but I feel it is a good avenue to explore. The problem with firestall is that since it relies on a OHKO with bolts late game, the SS will be huge, and EQ will severely hinder fire generation.

Um, if/when we find my replacement, do I still get a cool icon for winning war? =P

RNG?

I thought I was playing pretty smartly.

Other than the last game you had pretty good draws and had your defenses up fairly fast IMO.
I could be wrong, all I remember is deuce saying something about if you run into mono-entropy with diss shield that it would be an epic mindgate on entropony's part.
Not to take credit from your win though, we definitely needed this one.

Aether / Re: Team Absences

I hate to post this, but I will be away in China for a month, starting Friday. I will most likely be the first member that must be subbed. I was honestly assuming I would be kicked out of War by JUNE, but seems as if our team is just too good (not to imply I was throwing matches). It's not likely that I will have a stable connection there, but I will try to pop in now and then to watch our surge to victory. It was a very rewarding experience, and I thank each and every member of the team for helping me understand the depth of strategy involved in EtG. Hopefully this game will not just be a phase for me. Hopefully I will come back to the game and continue to contribute to the community. This team has been wonderful while I have been a part of it, and I wish you all good luck, not only when spinning the Oracle or in your War matches, but in real life wherever it may take you. When I return from China, I have a full-time job, part-time job, and part-time Masters Degree program awaiting me, so with my remaining time, I am unsure whether I will be able to participate in another large PvP event.

This team has worked incredibly hard to be in the position it is right now, and each of you owes it to yourself to continue doing the things that make this team successful. I look forward to returning to EtG when the forum is reigned by aether.

May your hands be blessed with balanced draws and your minds be laden with epic mindgates.

Thanks, in no order whatsoever.

deuce: for your desire to continually test against every strategy, no matter how unlikely, is an example for all of us. Your reads have single-handedly contributed to many of our wins. For event-based tactics and a solid case of paranoia.

Alan: for making me feel less lonely when entering #aether to check for activity. For showing up for every single match and playing to the best of your ability.

Sot: for playing with the decks you were granted, and for never arguing. For being loyal to the team and contributing in every way possible.

Eva: for always doing your best to make time for War. For doing all those small things that sometimes go unappreciated. For those main threads that consolidate our thoughts into one large mindgate.

will: for endless testing, worrying, and fretting. For always making sure we have good chances to win, and for always providing extremely good advice. For finding those avenues that turn hopeless cases into crushing victories.

pika: for staying up those long nights to make sure everything is cleaned up. For always making the commitment to the team, no matter the price. For cookies and popcorn.

and to our fearless leader: for choosing the EtG newb who desperately wanted to take part in War. For leading this team to greatness that will never be forgotten. For the tenacity, perseverance, hard work, intelligence, and extra Spark that makes this team what it is. For uncanny decision making abilities, and for assembling the pieces of the greatest War-machine that EtG has ever seen.

I wish you all the best.

Game 1: Went well, but xn had a terrible draw with only an aether pillar, and no death quanta. Easy win.
Game 2: Didn't draw the deflags I needed in time, pretty close game, but I knew it was hinging on that draw and never got it.
Game 3: Too much quanta on both sides, I needed either another phoenix early or PU but got neither. Got all my deflags but he went fractal (elite) mummies so it was over from there.

EDIT2: Not sure, but I think I found a decent strategy against firestall. So, the idea is to fractal a dragon halfway through the match and play only 2 or 3 dragons (probably can't play more than 4 anyway) This will draw out their bolts or rage pots, and keep playing a dragon every other turn or so. Again, this is a little more RNG dependent, but this will prevent them from OTK with 10 cards left and it will allow you to not spend as much quanta on bonewalls (yay for 1-2 more dragons!)
This works amazingly well. fractal dragons early, and generally never have more than 2 on the field at once because 2x RoF can really blow. Replacing plague with arse makes it much more consistent too.

Currently 5-1 against FSS

EDIT: 1 more thing. Once 3 Fire bolts have been used, might be a good idea to wait for OTK at that point, but depends on the situation and everything.
Pika and UT, you should read this and try it if you haven't done much testing against FSS. Bumping it since it may have been lost in the commotion.
