Just a note to say that I'm currently having some personal issues, which means that it's unlikely I'll be updating this standings thread whilst the auction is still running.

There is already another auction tracker, so people may want to use that. Alternatively, people are welcome to simply copy and paste the current BBCode into a new thread.

Apologies all.

Just chiming in to say that any "solution" to this "problem" that involves anyone (especially Scaredgirl or the moderators) having to do more work is probably not going to happen.

My only suggestion is that, if it bothers you that people receive karma for the wrong reasons, you need to start giving it out for the right reasons.

If ScaredGirl had not intervened at the last minute in this auction, there would have been a number of elite players sold to teams for very cheap thanks to dealmaking.
I'd like to see some evidence for and reasoning behind this statement, as (quite ignoring the fact that the auction isn't even over yet) it seems to me that the following still applies:

Dealmaking would be almost impossible for any good player because convincing 11 other people not to bid on someone is very, very hard unless you can give something in return. It is not worth the risk of not bidding on a strong player in a "deal" when you have to rely on 10 other people to do the same.
So which one is the case? Is it impossible to convince 11 to adhere to a deal, or would there have definitely been some back room deals this auction without anyone defecting? This is pretty simple game theory here.

Religion / Re: George Carlin - Religion is bullsh*t

I think it's safe to say that if you live in a country where Christians enjoy almost universal cultural hegemony, and where the natural assumption is that virtually everyone in your audience is likely to be either Christian or have Christianity as their frame of reference for religion in general, saying "religion" when you mean "Christianity" is not entirely unreasonable.

Actually a silent auction is an excellent idea. It would completely remove dealmaking and add some major strategy elements.
A silent auction would only increase dealmaking, as masters would be unable to react to others' strategies. Therefore the temptation to plan and arrange beforehand would be greater. It would also take away from the dynamism of the auction process, which ultimately is the entire reason that we do it this way rather than just letting the masters pick teams.

On another note entirely, I'm not sure why people are railing against "troll bidding", or even calling it that. Bidding on something you don't necessarily want in order to increase its price for others is a sound strategy which has the effect of ensuring that masters end up paying something closer to their perceived value of that person. The burden of risk is still on the person trying to drive up prices, and if done correctly it turns into a game of brinkmanship. It actually has the effect of bringing the auction results closer to an accurate reflection of the value of the players.

My suggestion is that instead of complaining about not knowing where the line is, you just shouldn't go near the line in the first place.

If you have any specific complaints or criticisms, please take them to Scaredgirl or the moderation team directly, rather than airing them in public. Thanks.

Updated Slaves for today.

For reference linking to threads on here doesn't really help me that much as I go through the section looking at every thread with new posts. It's easier that way, and I make sure I don't miss anything. But thanks anyway. :)

Just double checking: I don't think that bid is legal, is it?

Updated the slaves. Damn you wizel. :P

This was a long update, so there are virtually guaranteed to be errors. Easy karma for anyone who spots them!

Daxx I wanted you but you are getting pretty expensive. I need to think hard about it.
Hey, I understand either way. You have your initial Vault to worry about. :)
