In-game Troubleshooting / Is this a Beta?
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:09:49 pm »

The game is past v1.0, and the core gameplay is fully functional, which would indicate not. However, cards are being added and balancing is being done, and the developer clearly intends to add more, so that makes things more complicated. Perhaps it's better to think of it as being constantly patched and expanded.

Off-Topic Discussions / Climate change
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:09:49 pm »

I hate to get involved with topics like this, but here's a point of information: Global Warming is a misnomer. The effect that it really has is to make the climate more variable. Therefore, extraordinary temperature or weather changes in any direction could be attributed to climate change.

For example, the seas around Northern Europe are getting warmer, and species previously known only to live in warmer waters have moved northwards. However, should climate change cause the gulf stream to move, it's more than possible that Northern Europe could be plunged into seriously cold climate conditions. There are other examples of this which apply to other weather patterns.

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Quantum pillars from 3 to 2 quantum ?
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:09:49 pm »

Just to add my last two cents: for all trading card games, the strength of a deck it directly related to the "expected strengh value" you are able to summon in each situation (whatever the draw ordering for your deck). The expected strength value is defined as the card strengh (approximated here by its selling value) multiplied by the probability you've got the ressources (here, the corresponding quantums) to summon it for a given game turn. For Elements, it's quite easy to perform the maths as soon as you forget hasten cards which make the process a bit complicated. The effect of hasten cards can be included in the process, but it would require a computer simulation process instead of pure combinatorics computation. Of course, this implies that the selling value of each card is a good approximation of its strength...
Except we know that card prices and card quantum costs are not necessarily good indicators of their comparative strengths. Essentially you'd be basing your model on a false premise, which wouldn't solve the balance problem (in fact, it would be more likely to introduce more). Plus, it punishes good deckbuilding which is the antithesis of CCG game design.

Game Suggestions and Feedback / Quantum pillars from 3 to 2 quantum ?

I don't agree with altering the deck's function depending on who you're playing. It's not conducive to good deck-building strategies because it makes it impossible to test. Further, I don't particularly see the need to balance the game between people with better decks and people with worse decks - it seems rather artificial to me, not to mention the insane metagaming it would generate.

As far as rainbow decks being too powerful, I still think the suggestion made in the previous thread linked by perflubon (echoed by Scaredgirl above) has merit - make costly mono-colour cards more attractive, and make more of them. Given that rainbow decks don't generate any particular type of quantum very fast, this makes cards with costs around 12-15 much more difficult to play; they would, however, still be within reach of the mono-decks. That, and maybe having a look over Sundial for balancing purposes.

I don't mean to act like a dick, but your posts are so devoid of content they make me want to cry. We have a shoutbox and a chat room for inane bulls***.

Or, alternatively, you could elaborate on what you mean, and I wouldn't end up despairing for the future of the human race.

If I switch to I.E., I don't have Flash capability anymore.

Not to mention the increased virus risks.
Have you tried Opera or Chrome?

If you want moderators (the forum's pretty small, so you probably don't right now) I'm sure there are a few of us in the community with the time and experience to volunteer.

Nevertheless, thanks for setting up the forums and wiki. I'm surprised that Zanz didn't bother himself - but then I guess there's work to do on the game, and dealing with the community isn't something that's top priority.

In-game Troubleshooting / Card layout

it would be nice also to have the ability to move the cards to where you wanted in the playspace. I suspect that's a lot more difficult than it sounds judging by the way some of the coding seems to have happened.
It would also have some not so obvious side effects, as attack order and other things depends on placement.
That's interesting; I had assumed it was based on the age of the card on the field, but I suppose for the most part those seem to yield functionally the same results.

How come this didnt work!!!! :P
Probably because it was arranged for the same day as it was announced, with only random people in chat.

You need to do this by allowing people to arrange and play matches at their convenience. Not everyone is in the same time zone or is free at an exact time.

If you guys want to organise anything competitive you need a format.

There are two options which spring to mind - either a weekly ongoing league, or a rolling single elimination system.

In the first, you play best of three against any opponent in the league you can find - the victor gets three points and the loser gets one. Each pairing can only play each other a maximum of twice in any given week. You keep a roster of games played/won/lost/points.

The second is a system whereby you register your involvement in the thread and then try to contact one of the other ones involved. Winner posts and gets to advance to the next round which is played the next week. Meanwhile, new tournaments are organised so that each plays one round per week. After a while you should get a finals match being played every week.

I'd offer to help organise this if I had more free time, but just saying "let's do this" isn't going to attract a lot of people. If, on the other hand, you're just after getting people together to have casual games so that you can play against interesting people, that might work quite well.

Time / Mono-Time can be retarded

A good mono-fire deck should breeze through Level 3 even unupgraded. Upgrades are the icing on the cake.

Unfortunately there isn't, at the moment, but it's worth suggesting it.

In addition to being able to see those cards, it would be nice also to have the ability to move the cards to where you wanted in the playspace. I suspect that's a lot more difficult than it sounds judging by the way some of the coding seems to have happened.
