Competitions / Re: Competition: Design a Competition

I like how everyone started using the real world camera photo thing right after I said mine. I'm not saying anyone copied me, as all the camera real world ideas are really good, some better than mine even. I just thought it was funny ^_^
Ha! I didn't copy you Kami. At least... I wasn't trying to...  :P

I think this competition could've been broken down into 3 smaller competitions. In almost every entry, I really like one of the competitions, but the other ones don't sound too fun. For example, I loved Antagon's screenshot competition, but I really wasn't a fan of his other two ideas. Likewise, I like Kami's first and third competition, but the 2nd one just seemed too... boring. Voting for these is definitely going to be a challenge.

1. Costly, not Overpowered
Design a card with the cost of 12 or more quanta of any element. The challenge is to make a creative, costly card without it being overpowered.

2. Jester's Photo Album
Tell a joke using one or two in-game screenshots. Any type of format for the joke is acceptable. Make a motivational poster, edit Cockatrice's name with ****atrice, or you could do one like this...

3. Build-a-Creature Workshop
Build a model of an Elements creature using anything (legos, around-the-house objects, q-tips, etc.). Take a picture of it, upload it, and show everyone your true creative side.

I thought about challenging you Essence, but then I remembered that you actually have ALL of your water cards upped. Plus, I've barely played lately due to college...

As for the "Make this card" competition, I'm glad to admit that some of those other ideas were better than mine. However, we've already seen the flaws in the other competitions. A GREAT idea can receive very few votes, while a mediocre card with good art receives the majority. I don't care how many people in the "elite" group would have helped me with it, because it still would have gotten very few votes.
Hm, but all the art was virtually the same for the "Make this card" competition. To be fairly blunt and honest, I didn't see anything great about your card idea. Sure it was unique, but it didn't offer much to gameplay. Then again, I'm not sure how I won the competition either. I enjoy my idea, but I certainly didn't think it was good enough to win. I only thought Overflow/Overfill was actually good enough to the winner. But the populace decided differently. At least those that part took in the competition.

Yes some other competitions have some flaws, as does virtually everything in life, but we try to see that all competitions are fair and equal for all. I thought the "Make This Card" was the most fair competition so far. Seeing as how everyone was forced to use the same image, it was the idea alone that basically won.

And that is why that competition even happened. To help eliminate the idea of the art making the difference in cards.
Which is exactly why I said "...the OTHER competitions." I knew the purpose of the "Make this card" competition.

Kael, you seem to carry this elitist attitude all over the forums. You just keep digging deeper and deeper...

I'm glad SG decided to go another route. Otherwise, I may have been one of the "newbs" that didn't have any say-so in anything. Don't forget that some new people aren't necessarily children, or new to the TCG scene.
I am an elitist and a Perfectionist. I believe peoples and communities should evolve and grow and become more knowledgable as a whole. I get disgusted when I see the propagation of bad habits and bad discipline.

I don't want to stifle creative ideas or views on anything that anyone has to say. I want everyone to grow into a mature intelligent productive community which can learn and develop from the collective in a disciplined manner free from the immature and foolish.

In the "Make this card" competition you only recieved 3 votes. Do you think that if you were offered help by the collective that this could excel? At the time you had no chance because the group thought something else was better so your idea from a point of vote was declined. My idea is to allow those of the more experienced part of the collective evaluate your idea solely as it is. If it has a failing offer a way to fix it and make it pro so it is at a standard Zanz can see and take to the game if he wants. Again with Malevolance/ Malice, I think the idea you offered was quite sound but again because of voting it ment nothing to the group.
Look, I understand that you want to better the game and its community. That's perfectly fine. But, being an elitist is only going to make people hate you. I'm all for change, but having the attitude that you and a small group of people are better than the rest isn't going to help anything. Elitism has caused a lot of trouble in the world's history...

And if you're so phobic of immature and foolish people, then the internet is not the right place for you.  :))

Wait... Did the video just say I'm emo? And "bleeding wrists"?
No. It said that since your avatar picture isn't a pair of bleeding wrists, that you are NOT emo.  ;D

General Discussion / Re: Spin nerf?
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:26:24 pm »
The spin has never been nerfed since the first Elements' version. That part of the code never changed.
The only thing that changed, (months ago) is the probability to get pillars from decks made mostly of pillars.
Perhaps a bug or something has come up. From personal experience, I've thought that the spins were nerfed discretely in the last update.

I think I've won one card from about 15 FG victories since the update (haven't gotten to play much recently). It used to be much better for me. Guess it's just bad luck...

I'm surprised Neptune has this many votes, the deck loses completely if the shield is stolen, it nulls the squids and makes they crawlers deal only 4 damage, while they're not frozen. Someone using Puppy's deck will also have their own permafrost, making it even more likely to come out. Since the crawlers are the only offense, and each one is almost nulled by a shard, it makes it fairly easy for the player to stall for a quinted oty, and then the game is over.
There are numerous entries with that problem, yet they've gotten plenty of votes.

It was more of a play on words on RoL's sake.
What? I don't really see that. Care to explain?
The word "ray" in "Ray of Light." Just forget it. It was a bad joke that went awry...  :-X

On topic: There are quite a few Phoenix/Fractal decks. Others are 60-card bonanzas. It'll be interesting to see the winner.

Unfortunately, some internet goers are unable to joke about rape, as they have had close encounters with the horrid subject.

As a person, I kindly ask that you refrain from joking about that.  Thank you.
Understood. It was more of a play on words on RoL's sake. Sorry if it was offensive.
