It seems that there was some rule like that planned once and it was quoted in the first answer to ScaredGirl's rule post.
You can join either one of them depending on which time suits you best, but you can only join one tournament per week..
But the current version of the rules doesn't make you choose anymore.

General Discussion / Re: PvP issues

it would be significantly more difficult here
Without wanting to discount the difficulties in creating an elements AI, the chess problem is still several orders of magnitude greater. Think how many people put years of their lives into it before chess programmes could start to compete with actual humans, whereas zanz managed to single-handedly write an AI that, while not being as good as humans, at least isn't boring to play against.

It might come close if we'd expect the AI to also choose the deck (including participating in the metagame).

And you got to love it when both of the two uses can be activated at once - rage on a voodoo doll (your own, preferably).

General Discussion / Re: Your synergy path?
« on: February 02, 2011, 09:37:05 pm »
I started with Fire and played it for quite some time. I was distrustful of duos for a while, so I wasn't too tempted to just add another element in. When I went up against FGs, I completely switched to the Mono-Aether defense. And after some time on to a SG rainbow and then anything. So I guess I didn't have a synergy path so much as a sequence of unrelated decks.

do i need to sign up for this tourny or just turn up in torny chat room ?
Just turn up in the tourney chat room. 15 mins before the start of the tournament so that organizers have time to see you there and include you.

As I said, he was a darkness user and as such, instead of being healed, he hurt himself and allowed me to win.
I think you perhaps miscalculated who was about to win, cause even if your mark is darkness, holy light will heal you. The hurt part applies only to creatures.

PvP Tournaments / Re: Post your tournament ideas here

"I need them alive:"

As soon as any player is down to 15 cards in his drawing pile, the player with most HPs left wins. If anyone kills his opponent before that, they lose. The objective is to hurt, not kill.

Obviously, the number 15 can be tweaked (maybe 12 might be better?). The end of the game will usually be at the beginning of someone's turn, before they can play any cards. However, with hourglasses you can end the game in the middle of your turn.

Obviously this would call for quite different deck ideas than usual. But there are various approaches that seem to be viable, which suggests to me that it might make for an interesting challenge.

The main emphasis could be on controlling one's own creatures, damaging only with magic (which is easier to control but can fail completely against a Silence on the last turn), changing the size of the draw pile during the game (draw more cards / rewind creatures) or just killing yourself quickly.
