Grid - Rules
Original idea by: Gyrodiot | Developed by : Gyrodiot & TStar | Organized by: Gyrodiot

The Grid is made of 144 slots. If there's a card in them, you may use it for your deck. If it's a Relic, you may claim it after your victory. Beware, the Grid is changing and you'll have to choose the best slots. Limit yourself to gain more Relics, but don't be too greedy... This is a score-based Event.

Don't miss the second post, with FAQ and examples !

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?

Anyone with a forum account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

Fixed amount of participants for this event is 32. If the event is full, you can still sign up as a reserve player, and will get a chance to join the event if any of the 32 players doesn't show up during Round 1.

The event will last 36 days (for top 8 players, 24 days for top 24 and 12 days minimum) and use the PvP Parasite Warning System.

2. THE GRID

The Grid is made of 144 slots, each one containing a card or Relics.
The Grid is fully public : every player know where cards and Relics are. The initial positions of the cards are decided randomly at the beginning of the event.
Cards appearing in the Grid can be any cards except Pillars, Pendulums, Shards, Marks and Nymphs.

Every round, players have to choose 12 slots in the Grid, with the following rules :
You may not choose 2 slots in the same row or column ;You may not choose a card you have chosen in the previous round. In a rare case of a card appearing in 2 consecutive rounds at 2 different places, you can pick it both times ;If the slot contains a card, you may use copies of it in your deck ;If the slot contains N Relics, you'll gain N Relics if you win your duel. This is cumulative.
Moreover, they must choose Target slots among the 12 slots they picked. A Target must be a card slot, and may be filled by a Relic, depending on the Round number.

3. ROUND SCHEDULE

Each round lasts 6 days, split in two phases : Pick Phase and Duel Phase. The event is split in 12 periods of 3 days :
    Period 1 : Round 1Period 2 : Round 1 & Round 2Period 3 : Round 2 & Round 3Period 4 : Round 3Period 5 : Round 4Period 6 : Round 4 & Round 5Period 7 : Round 5 & Round 6Period 8 : Round 6Period 9 : Round 7Period 10 : Round 7 & Round 8Period 11 : Round 8 & Round 9Period 12 : Round 9
The event starts with 32 players. After Period 4 and 7, the lowest ranked (Relic-wise) of the players are eliminated from the event. The number of Targets varies accordingly :
Rounds 1-3 : 32 players, 2 Targets by player, winners' Targets are filled by Relics ;Rounds 4-6 : 24 players, 3 Targets by player, winners' Targets are filled by Relics ;Rounds 7-9 : 8 players, 4 Targets by player, all Targets are filled by Relics.
If, for some reason, the event starts with 24 players, here is the schedule :
Rounds 1-3 : 24 players, 3 Targets by player, winners' Targets are filled by Relics ;Rounds 4-6 : 16 players, 4 Targets by player, winners' Targets are filled by Relics ;Rounds 7-9 : 8 players, 4 Targets by player, all Targets are filled by Relics.

4. PICK PHASE

Pick Phase lasts 3 days after the beginning of the round. Once you sent a PM to the Organizer with your picks, you can fight your opponent right away if he/she did the same. Be careful : once you sent valid picks to the Organizer, you can't modify them.

Pairings are posted at the beginning of the round, along with the current Grid. Pairings are decided randomly. A player may not encounter another one twice during the Event (if possible). If there's an odd number of players, the "lonely player" gets a Floating Match (see dedicated section below).

Card Bans are also posted (that is, the cards you chose in the previous round). You can't pick them this Round.

Players have to choose 12 slots and Targets on the Grid. They can also spend a certain number of Relics they already have (see deckbuilding rules below).

All these information (slots, targets, number of Relics spent) must be sent by PM to the Organizer before the end of Pick Phase. There will be no delay for picking, and absence of valid PM will result in an immediate loss.

You can build any deck, with these restrictions :
Cards aren't upgraded by default. If you spend one Relic you gained, you have the right to use 3 upgraded cards in each of your decks this round. For example, if you spend 3 Relics, you may use up to 9 upgraded cards in each deck you play this round.Any mark, any sizeAny Pillars and Pendulums, no Mark Cards.Cards from the slots you have chosen (not necessarily all). You can use any number of copies of them.

5. ROUND EVENTS

Every round, unique restrictions will be posted along with pairings and Grid. What are they ? Mystery.

You won't have to follow them, but you'll usually gain some extra Relics if you do.

6. DUEL PHASE

As stated above, duels can happen right after both players sent valid picks to the Organizer, meaning that you have up to 6 days to schedule your match. However, you must perform your matches in the round order : for example, in Period 3, Round 3 match can't happen before Round 2 one. Round 3 picks can be sent either before or after your Round 2 match.

Players must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time. Event Organizer will determine who the most active player was, and his or her word is final.

Matches are best-of-five. The first player who wins 3 individual duels, wins the match. You're allowed to switch between decks during the match (as long as they all meet the deckbuilding rules, of course).

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair.

Winner should post their result in the "Battle Results" section, along with short description of how the match went. Both the winner and the loser are required to post pictures of both their decks, and their slot and Target picks.

7. SCORE RESOLUTION

Four cases can happen :
Normal case : the match happened normally. Winner gains Relics picked ;Both players sent picks but failed to schedule their match : if the match can't be scheduled close after the deadline, both players get Floating Matches (see below) ;Player A sent picks, not Player B : Player B loses, Player A gets a Floating Match (see below) ;No player sent picks : both players lose.

8. FLOATING MATCHES

Floating Matches (FM) happen when, for some reason, a player hasn't been given the opportunity to play a match, and have a chance to win Relics. FM ensure that all contestants play the same number of matches. If a player receives a FM, he/she will be added to a queue, waiting for another player with a FM, and duels him/her.
At the end of Round 1, 3 players receive a FM. 2 of them are immediately paired for a duel, using Round 2 Grid. The remaining player waits.

At the end of Round 2, 2 players receive a FM. One of them is paired with the lonely Round 1 player, using Round 3 Grid. The other player waits, and so on.

FM happen independently from regular rounds. When a FM is scheduled, players have to perform it within 6 days, with picks having to be sent within 3 days. FM have their own Event and slot picking rules, and use Grid of the current round (at the time the match has been scheduled).
Instead of "no two picks in the same row or column", slot picks in FM must be all connected (by sides or corners). All other rules remain the same, including card bans.

Winners get Relics for their win as in a regular match.

Players with FM aren't included in the rankings : this means they can't be eliminated until their match is over. At the end of every round, some players may be eliminated until the right number of remaining players is met.
At the end of Round 6, out of 24 players, 4 players have a FM. Hence, 20 players are ranked and the 12 lowest-ranked ones are eliminated. Round 7 starts with 12 players (top 8 + 4 with FM).

At the end of Round 7, the 4 players solved their FM and one player gets one. 11 players are ranked, and the 3 lowest-ranked ones are eliminated. Round 8 starts with 9 players (top 8 + 1 with FM), and so on.

The final rankings are made after all FM have been solved. If a player stays alone with a FM, he/she gains nothing... unless it has influence on the winner of the event : the Organizer will find something to solve the problem.

9. THE NEW GRID

After a round ends, the Grid is updated as it follows :
If a slot hasn't been picked by a winner, nothing happens ;If a Relic slot has been picked by a winner, Relics are removed, and a random card (not already in the Grid) is put in the slot ;Relics are added in Target slots chosen by winners. If a single slot is targeted by more than one winner, it will receive several Relics.
Round 1 and Round 2 Grids are the same. This is intended.

10. WINNER

After the 12th Period, the player with the most Relics is the winner of the event. This cool forum icon and squared glory will be awarded:

PM and Post Formatting

The following examples use the Sample Grid below.
The PM can use any format as long as all the information (slots, targets and relics spent) clearly appear.

Example Slot picking PM 1

A8 - Devourer
B7 - Minor Vampire
C2 - 3 Relics
D4 - 1 Relic
E3 - Fractal - Target
F6 - Parasite
G5 - Dusk Mantle
H12 - Earthquake - Target
I1 - Vulture
J11 - 1 Relic
K9 - 1 Relic
L10 - Voodoo Doll - Target

Relics spent : 2
With these slot picks, I may use Devourer, Minor Vampire, Fractal, Parasite, Dusk Mantle, Earthquake, Vulture and Voodoo Doll in my decks this round. I can use up to 2 x 3 = 6 upgraded cards in my decks.
If I win, I'll gain 3+1+1+1 = 6 Relics ; the slots E3, H12 and L10 will be filled by a Relic. The slots C2, D4, J11 and K9 will be filled by new cards.

Example Slot picking PM 2

SlotCard
A3Deflagration
B2Phoenix
C9Relic x 1
D5Poison
E8Bone Wall
F4Relic x 1
G1Rage Potion
H11Relic x 2
I7Owl's Eye
J6Relic x 2
K10Relic x 1
L12Graviton Fire Eater
Relics spent : 0
With these slot picks, Napalm may use Deflagration, Phoenix, Poison, Bone Wall, Rage Potion, Owl's Eye and Graviton Fire Eater in her decks this round. She can't use upgraded cards in her decks.
If Napalm wins, she'll gain 2+2+1+1+1 = 7 Relics ; the slots E8, I7 and L12 will be filled by a Relic. The slots C9, F4, H11, J6 and K10 will be filled by new cards.
