Why we war

So, we've got this whole big war planned, and it's gonna be awesome with generals and maps and stuff, and there are cool quests with plots and it's gonna be fun.

But I had a thought.

Why are we at war again?

I mean, is it just war for... wars sake?  I mean, did Darkness ruin fire's tan or something?  We need a backstory here people!  And it's not going to be easy.  It's a free for all, meaning there can't be any alliances in the backstory either.

Ideas:

• The war is somehow false god related.
• The nymph king appeared and challenged the elementals, offering a reward to the strongest.
• Long convoluted backstory involving the thieving of off-element abilities.
• Something involving the void?  Perhaps Bloodshadow's Annihilus?
• Following the Elements backstory (or at least the one I see most commonly accepted) something involving reforming or proving yourself most worth of being The Great One?

I guess just post any ideas you have or say your favorite.  Perhaps flesh out one a bit so it's more of a story than a sentence.

False Gods have declared that all us mortals shall have to fight for their entertainment. Since they're effectively invulnerable when ALL of them work together, along with thier half-blood abominations offspring, they get to say so. We aren't TOO happy about it, but the winners get shiney things, so we're cool.

The Nymphs were bored, so they said that whoever is the strongest gets to have fun with them. Of course everyone agreed, so they began the war.

  fire loves to fight and just joins the war to kick a lot of a$$
  water is mellow and wants to calm everyone down, even if it means forcing them into peace
  air desires freedom for all the elements, so its fighting to prove that purity(mono) isnt the way to go

  earth is stubborn and refuses to accept that any other element is better than it, so its trying to prove itself
  darkness wants to take control of all the other elements and is fighting for domination
  death just wants everyone to die
  life wants to stop the fighting (very similar to water)

  entropy just loves watching people scramble around in a chaotic mess, and is doing everything in its power to continue it

  Aether wishes to survive, if that means remaining neutral
   Gravity wants to enforce law and order on the elements.  It wants the status quo, even if that doesn't fix anything.
   Wants the fight to be more diplomatic.
    Wants the war to be non-existant, but it's ferociously vengeful.
   Wants to be the defacto leader of the elements.
   Accepts the war as inevitable, and wishes to change the outcome in it's favor.

Just some ideas.

This reminds me of Hunger Games, which is kind of amusing.

My idea was that every element is trying to protect their secret bases, which has the weapon, chemical, and shield of their element. At least, that's the plot of my fanfic - it might be applicable here.

Well we have had two writing competitions as of late (both of which won by Gl1tch, that top-hat, english writer him).  However, since we already likely have competitions waiting in line, having this as one to consider in the future would be okay with me.
