A problem with posting images of pendulum https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=11157.msg137071#msg137071

so... i'm posting the new cards in the wiki.

then i realized that there's a problem with pendulums, since their arts change according to the mark.

what mark should i assume when posting pendulums?

1. same mark as the element of the pendulum (e.g. gravity pendulum with gravity mark)
 - problem : people may not understand how it works

2. with a random mark, presumably with , my favorite one
 - problem : others might not agree on it

3. with the mark of the opposite element
 - problem : those two elements are usually not synergic; the only one i see is perhaps :life- :death  (poison+forest scorpion) and :fire- :water, which seems obvious with steam machine

4. make 12 pictures and compile them into a single image that changes every second
 (example : Kael's quantum flash  http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,5983.0.html)
 - problem : i'm too lazy to make that. someone else mind making it?

5. just pick a random mark for every element, preferrably one that synergizes well with that element
ex) :life- :water , :fire- :earth , :air- :light .....
 - problem : some elements would be used more than once

what method do you people suggest?

though i agree it's tedious, i chose option 4. or.. maybe you could edit the image and replace the part with "??" and describe what does it mean. just a thought..

I would do the animated GIF image if I knew how... But yes, this is troublesome.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

heres what i did with MSPAINT + makeagif.com (http://www.makeagif.com) :-

(http://www.makeagif.com/36h-dP) (http://www.makeagif.com/yYMtU6)

the hardest part is selecting the dimension just right (142x220)
you can do it yourself, just remember the starting x,y position (on my computer it is 923,172)
there are 3 speed to choose from, fast/medium/slow...this is 'medium'

edit: i stand corrected, the hardest part is doing one for each pendulum, meaning 2x12x12 = 288 pictures o_o

4 would definitely be the most reasonable choice, though you can make the sub-elements as its counterpart, like  :aether- :time:fire- :water:life- :death etc.

Just use the opposite element for each. That is the simplest way to organize them, and we already have the pairings set up for us. Animated GIFs are complicated, thus requiring a ton of work on your end, and the result is a bunch of animated images that aren't even in the game itself. If I was a new player looking for useful information on Pendulums, I would probably be confused if I saw a picture of a card with a mark that switched back and forth.

There's no need to start polls about things like this because the general public doesn't know all the facts, therefore shouldn't make these decisions.

For example, we will not go with the popular option 4 because filesize would be too big. Also using gifs would make the rounded corners look like crap when put against different backgrounds. We could of course use animated PNG files but then there would be compatibility issues and it doesn't remove the main issue : filesize.

When we do the image there has to be a system. We cannot just use random elements. The way I see it, we have 3 viable options:

1. Leave it blank
2. Use the same element as the card
3. Use opposing element

Option number 3 is the best option imo because it uses a system (opposing elements), implies what the card does, and also as a bonus teaches people what the opposing elements are.

317kb doesnt seems like much imo considering the .jpg file for entrop pendulum is 60kb

Current card sizes average maybe 20kb. Yours is 16 times bigger, meaning that by the time it takes to load that one image, 16 regular images would have been loaded.

And when you put both unupped and upped on the same page, that's 634kb. And when we put all 12 Pendelums (both upped and unupped) on a same page, it's 7,7 Mb. That's a ridiculous size when we are are talking about small images like these.

Remember, the key here is usability and fast information gathering, not what looks cool.

Use opposing elements, then. It seems to be the easiest solution.
