What am I missing? Doing no damage... https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=10573.msg129757#msg129757

Hello,

I need some help, please.

I just did a top50 game vs ymmel's deck.

He used hope along with Ray of light spam.

Fair enough.

So, by the end, he had 23 creatures out, which should give him 24 armor against physical damage.
I had 4 phase dragons and 4 immortals out, which amounts to a total damage output of 48.
He had also brought plenty of shards of gratitude, which I was able to mostly get rid of.

So, technically I should be doing 24 damage per round, right? Given his one remaining SoG, that would amount to 16 damage per round.

Unfortunately, even after my damage output began surpassing his defense, I still kept doing 0 damage - right until the end, when my shields finally ran out and I was beaten.

The 23 in damage reduction from the Shield is reduced on each separate damage. So each creatures damage gets reduced by 23 in this case.

Shields apply their effect per attack. The damage from each creature is reduced by 24 not the total.

Well the shield takes 23 damage reduced PER creature so you would need a single creature with more than 23 damage to have any impact on his life.

Or Momentum. Of course, he neither had Momentum nor could have used Momentum in this case. Quinted Chargers > RoL/Hope.

Wow, ouch...

So the only way to beat this thing would be with either very high powered attack creatures or crowd control vs low hp critters, right?

Seems like a hard counter vs my board (which is suggested in the newbie guide. Nice move, ymmel.)

This is a very popular deck used to beat level 6, which says a lot. ^__^ Creatures with momentum and are quinted as well as crowd control both kill this deck.

Ah, I see.
So it isn't meant as a "take that newbs" board.
Oki  :)

Certain decks kill other decks. It's natural. :)

1 fire shield in your deck and you would have been fine for example. Now, you have to whatch out not to put to much situnational cards in your deck.

But still... :)

I like that idea, I'll put one in.
As it is, I'm defenseless against stalling/spam tactics.
Since I have fire marked, anyways...
Is just putting in 2 fireshields ok, or should I decide on two others to take out so I still am at 30 cards?

Off topic, but still:

I'm about to reach those 500 points (yay me) and I'll want to choose a weapon.
I'm planning on using this deck for a while longer, so should I use something that is fine with fire/aether?
I know that apparently most people go with crusher or... uhm.. the "put one creature back into the deck" one.
However, should I really take one of those NOW - even if I probably won't be using their abilities for a while?

It depends when you start farming FG's do you want an Entropybow a Timebow or a Rol/Hope which is what you fought.
