I came back to see if the usual apologetics were the responses or if someone understood.
I am happy to see several people understand, Elbirn and treebeard 'get it'.

Since zanz is keeping this a pet project no 'big fix' is going to happen.
So all you can do is a community is build a better game around the game, through tournaments, activities, sub games, quests and such.
The one big thing you can ask for is what, Elbirn asked for, push for clear in game links to these events, also instead of pushing these to the forums, build a website to handle awards, rankings, registration, and such.
Build the better game around the main game and stop defending and playing apologetic to something that is and will never be as great as you dream it is or could be.

Are we not already trying to do that? Just because you're getting the apology doesn't mean the extra work is being done as well. You talk almost as if the community isn't doing these things. As to building a new website for these things, why? How is that better/easier for new players than the forums?

This idea piqued my curiosity. What advantage would having a separate website for awards, rankings, registration, etc. have over managing these things through the already existing forums?

I am not saying you aren't already doing things...
I am saying that is all you can do...
So in other words there is nothing more you can do, then what you are already doing.
Except, you can do what you are doing, 'bigger, better, stronger'...
Oh snap...  and now I see how silly I am being, because I was going to mention something like battle.net or kongregate except more specific to elements and driving a bunch of PVP competition; but, I forgot zanz is getting money for kongregate's exclusivity to the product.  So... I will revise.

I am not saying you aren't already doing things...
I am saying that is all you can do...
So in other words there is nothing more you can do, then what you are already doing.

That seems really sad now, I guess my whole set of posts have no real lesson other than, this is a dying game and a dying community and there is nothing more to be done then what you are doing... that seems rather pessimistic all of a sudden, but is really a sad reality.

I disagree that the game and community are dying. There is no need to panic. Websites this size tend to have an ebb and flow to the traffic. We aren't at a critical level of membership and the game has even more traffic than the forums do. It'll pick up, and in the mean time we'll continue to work to make thing great for the members who are already here and welcoming for those who are first joining.

There are many things going on behind the curtain... but another sad reality is... most of us have jobs, families, school or a multitude of other issues keeping us from getting these things done as quickly as we would like.  I myself am working with several others to revive the Mentor Program but I have a full time job that has my attention form 5:30am to 6:00pm... I rarely get to play over 10 Arena games a night... where as I used to do close to 100... More time working on the Mentor Project than having fun with the game I love...

I'm sorry that the game hasn't fulfilled your thirst for entertainment. It's difficult to please everyone especially when there's only one developer and a handful of us who are trying to divert your attention while Zanz gets the time to work on the next update.

I would ask that you try some of the PvP events that are sponsored here and see if they can help pass the time until the game meets your expectations. It's always a sad day when one of our community decides to leave and I hope to see you around for some time to come.
