Weekly Featured Cards poll - Light https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=7232.msg78455#msg78455
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:53:16 am »
Choose the Light card that you wish to be featured next week!

What are Featured Cards?

Many other wikis, and Wikipedia itself, have daily, weekly or monthly featured articles. Likewise, Elements the Game Wiki (http://elementswiki.co.cc/) will have a Featured Card each week.

What's so special about the Featured Cards?

The Featured Cards are considered to be the best cards in Elements, since they will be voted and chosen by the community. Once a Featured Card is chosen, the Wiki Editors and other members of the community will write a detailed analysis of that card, and it will be put on the wiki.

How are the Featured Cards chosen?

Each Monday, a poll will be put up in the General Discussion forum. That poll will list all cards in one of the elements, excluding the pillar. Each forum user chooses his or her favorite card in that element. The poll will cycle through the elements :entropy :death :gravity :earth :life :fire :water :light :air :time :darkness :aether; the poll of the first week will be Entropy, second week Death, third week Gravity, etc.

On Friday, the poll will be locked and removed. The card with the most number of votes will be chosen as the Featured Card.

On Saturday, a detailed analysis of the Featured Card will be written, and posted on the poll thread as the first draft. The community will read the first draft, comment on it, and post what in the analysis that they think need to be amended or added.

On Sunday, the analysis will be edited accordingly, incorporating the suggestions given by the community. The final draft of the analysis will go on the wiki.

The next Monday, the Featured Card and its analysis will be posted on the wiki. A new poll, of the next element in the cycle, will be made in the poll thread.

Featured Card Archive: Those are cards that have been previously featured. They may not be featured again, until all cards have been featured at least once. Cards in this archive will no longer be included in future polls, until there are no more cards left to choose.

Voted for Antimatter, the most complicated, awesomest, and strategical card in Entropy.

Mutation. Old favorites never die; this is one of the funnest cards in the game. :D

Not enough people know about this... we need more votes!

I honestly expected Fallen Elf to get the most votes...

SG is going to make an announcement about this thread soon. But for now, I've posted what I wanted her to say on the first post.

It seems I did as you expected and opted for Fallen Elf: the most interesting Entropy card I currently use which always renders matters more exciting.

Is the plan to eventually make all the cards have a featured cards page/article?

I voted for Abomination/Minor Abomination, since I know I't won't get love from anyone else.

No, the plan is to feature the best cards in Elements. I feel less willing to feature, let's day Dragonfly, than to feature Fallen Elf.

Don't pick a card simply because it won't get votes from anyone else. Pick your favorite card, a card that you want to be featured.

I see that SG had moved this thread to General Discussions. Good, it'll get more views like this.

There is a problem, though. When a card is featured, it cannot be featured again; this is to ensure that cards like Fallen Elf and Fractal will not be featured again and again. But eventually, we will run out of cards, so the less popular cards will have to be featured. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not very willing to feature Dragonfly and other cards like that. Should we keep eliminating cards until all cards have been featured at least once, or should the card pool "reset" after a certain amount of time? We won't have this problem until years later, but I want to hear your opinions nonetheless.

Right now, my suggestion is to have the card pool reset every two years, which is approximately 104 weeks and cards featured. I know that this way some of the cards will never be featured, but we can treat those cards separately and write analyses for them even if they're not featured.

I'd prefer it if they just kept eliminating can't see why weaker cards should have analysis as well.

Wait, what do you mean? If we keep eliminating, then weak cards with little use would eventually have to be featured. You should say the opposite if you think weak cards shouldn't have analyses.

He's saying what I was saying.

The ultimate goal of this project is to have an analysis of all cards, not just rotate a handful of cards that the community thinks is the "best". Dividing cards into "good cards" and "bad cards" is exactly what we should be trying to avoid because most cards are useful in a right deck. This is why comments like..

Quote
The Featured Cards are considered to be the best cards in Elements
.. are counter productive. We should simply ask people to vote for a card they want featured.

Also keep in mind that there are only 52 weeks in a year and new cards are coming out every month, so we could probably run this project for 2 years before we had to choose any "bad cards".
