I would like to present my idea for weighting. It's as simple, logical, and unbiased as I could make it. I should hope this is something we can all agree on.
The main idea is that rewards are proportional to the number of competitors. A tournament with 64 competitors would be worth 4 times as many points as a tournament with only 16. It is, of course, 4 times as impressive to win a tournament with 4 times as many players. This is fairly simple, but not perfect by itself. Thus, I have added a few multipliers.
Rewards are doubled for longer events. When an event has more matches, it's a greater achievement to win. This multiplier applies to War, Trials, Leagues - basically everything except tournaments and a few of the PvP Events. The rule I have in mind is that if it's single elimination (such as TCOB1 and Colosseum), there is no multiplier. If it is double elimination - or there's some other way for players to only be eliminated after multiple losses - then the reward is doubled.
Rewards are doubled for events that limit the number of players who enter based on achievement. When the players competing are usually somewhat experienced, the competition is tougher, so the rewards are higher. This multiplier applies to Trials, CL, and WC.
Lastly...rewards are doubled for more "prestigious events." I don't personally like this idea, but some people think it's important. This multiplier would apply to War, Trials, and WC.
1st place would be worth full points, 2nd place would be half, and 3rd place would be one third. This is because there are twice as many top 2 finishers as there are winners.
Let's look at a few of the recent events, using this system.
Tournament (16 players) - 16 points for 1st, 8 points for 2nd, 5 points for 3rd.
CL (24 players) - 24*2*2=96 points for 1st, 48 for 2nd, 32 for 3rd, 24 for 4th.
BL (37 players) - 37*2=74 points for 1st, 37 for 2nd, 25 for 3rd, 19 for 4th.
TPvP (15 teams) - 15*2=30 points for 1st, 15 for 2nd, 10 for 3rd.
War (12 teams) - 12*2*2=48 points for 1st, 24 for 2nd, 16 for 3rd.
Trials of Light (4 players) - 4*2*2*2=16 points for 1st.
World Championship (21 players) - 21*2*2*2 = 84 points for 1st, 42 for 2nd, 28 for 3rd.
