I imagine UG's coding goes like this-
Deal 20 damage to opponent.
Deal 1 damage to all of the opponents creatures in order of their positioning
Deal 1 damage to all of your creatures based on their positioning

This would result in a loss in the experiment, as dealing 1 damage to the opponent's creature would kill the player who ignited the Unstable Gas.
