I still don't fully understand what the Oracle is for apart from a daily prize of coins, and a pet for one battle. What are the 'words of wisdom' he speaks?

If it's a Nymph, you keep it. If not, no.

And, Relic is used as placeholders for Nymphs in the card spins. So the only way to get a Nymph is via Oracle, and that's why Zanz made the Oracle.
