The Big Rare Debate https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=3603.msg32783#msg32783
« on: March 04, 2010, 09:50:46 pm »
As the ratio between rare cards and normal cards gets closer to one, the rareness of rare cards decreases.  Right now we have two rares per element, plus arctic squid and miracle and the shards.  That's 28 rares in a game with only 161 cards in it.  So about 17% of all cards are rares.  And with weapons being such a vital thing, farms were bound to appear.

But Zanz is against the concept of rare farms.  So the question is, how do we increase the value of rare cards, without causing more farms to appear.  The arguments:

Option 1:  Increase the number of non-rare cards.  In this way, rare cards would stop being so necessary, and farms would decrease.  It would also be less likely to win rares from spins.

Option 2:  Create a new level of rareness called "mythics".  Zanz has already said he's thinking about implementing these, and that they could only be won from ridiculously difficult challenges.

Option 3:  Allow elemental weapons to be bought, but for 1,500 electrum.  These do not necessarily have to be the ones currently in game, perhaps adding more weapons to choose from, but as long as there as the only weapons per element are rare, people are going to farm for them.

Option 4:  Remove spins from the Top 50.  This would shut down all rare farms, meaning you would have to grind computers to get them.

Option 5:  Leave as is.  Pretty self explanatory =/

Additional options will be added as they are thought of.

I voted for introducing new non rare cards, but I would love to see mythics, and more weapons that aren't necessarily rares, and T50 spins removed. Though if we remove the T50 spins it would make it nearly impossible to acquire SoGs which would be unfair to new players so we would need to balance that.

I vote option 3.  if i could i would vote for option one also but i like 3 better.

Option 4 is just crippling tot he game.  it makes making new decks absolutely impossible if the deck requires rare cards to work.

EDIT: also, removing spins from the T50 which make fighting them worthless, it is easier to face a level 3 AND you can actually win something.

I voted for Mythics (Mighty Synergy and Religion Series) so we can have uber-rares in the game.

As to solving rare farms, I don;t think we ever can so I'm not that fussed.

I like the idea of more non rare cards and propose a scale of some type to work on this.

 ie
 1. Common: Available in Bazaar, 61% likely to get in spins, easy to attain
 2. UnCommon: Available in Bazaar, 21% likely in spins, not so easy to attain
 3. Rare: Not available in Bazaar, 12% likely in spins. Difficult to attain
 4. Uber-rare: Not available in Bazaar 6% likely in spins. Almost impossible to attain
 5. Mythic: Not available in Bazaar or Spins. Only achieved through Quests.

Just an idea

Or rare cards (not upped) could be removed from the T50

The biggest problem I see with this is people are consistently vague about what a "rare card" is.  Do you mean current rare cards (as options 4 and 5 seem to suggest), or cards yet to be released (as option 2 seems to suggest)?

The fact of the matter is the current rares are not that rare (which was the start of all this), like it or not.  People have 6+ copies of "rares", and everyone else is grinding to get the same.  You can't go back now and say "I'm going to remove T50 spins and make the rare cards rare again" because so many people already have them.  The only way to make a truly rare card now is to make a new card that no one has yet, and make it difficult for anyone to get.

However, given the way this game is (no trading, only option is to sell), given enough time ALL cards can become common, because everyone has to be able to get them, thus an unlimited number of them can enter the game.  If there was some sort of trading system in place, there could be a limited number of rare cards introduced.  (Say, a rare card could randomly be won from spins after beating a certain FG, but would only appear in spins if less than 50 of them were in the game already).

I think a good way to get around that is to release new weapon cards, the old ones become uncommon and cost 1500 in the bazaar. Same with all rares really, slowly downgrade them bringing in more cards as we go.

Thanks

i would have gone with the weapon one, were it not for the price. 1,500 for a weapon that almost everyone has is a little much. how about 500? as for the rest, i dont like them (merely out of opinion)

I'm not voting because that wouldn't properly voice my opinion: I feel that #1 and #3 combined would be the best solution. There's no reason we couldn't do both... although, new regular cards are inevitable, so I may as well just vote for #3, seeing as #1 will happen whether anyone likes it or not lol...

I agree with that mostly. Instead of focusing on what we have already, focus on what we can do in the future. Nymphs are not winnable in the t50 (let alone, aren't winnable in the slots at all) and other rares should follow in the future. the rare cards as they stand now aren't very rare. So instead, ignore them and focus on making new rare card unobtainable from the t50. That way farm decks for new rare cards will be impossible.

Well, I think the good weapons should remain rare, while the not-so-good are sold.  Vampire stilleto?  That's in the store.  Pulverizer?  Get grinding buddy.
