Spine Carapace Question https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=8558.msg99070#msg99070
« on: June 23, 2010, 05:07:10 am »
I was wondering as to why the SPINE CARAPACE does not affect creatures with attackpower 1.
They also attack - but deal no damage.....

The shield says: physical damage reduced by one. Attacking creatures have a 75% chance to be infected

so - as far as I understand this now -  creatures who have an attack power of 1 do not attack, because the shield reduces it to zero? Is that correct? so basically an attack does not happen? I am a bit confused as to whether this is a bug or wanted, because just by reading the shields information on the card I would think that ALL ATTACKING CREATURES (no matter how high their attackpower is) would be affected simply BECAUSE THEY ATTACK. I thought the reduction of their attackpower is just another effect, taking place as well as the potential infection.

I think (just my humble opinion) the unupgraded version of the shield is much better then.....which would be a bit strange.....

If creatures wouldn't do any damage, then they don't count as attacking.

the same applies to the frost shield but not to firewall because it doesn't reduce damage

kinda like a chyssora won't attack your enemy so firewall won't affect it

i had your very doubts and opened up a discussion here:

http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,8364.0.html

apparently there is a set of "unwritten" rules you have to learn :

Shields Have special Rulings that circumvent Shield Text.

1. Shields Always prevent damage from Physical Sources Only unless Stated Otherwise and do so by reducing any positive Atk by the damage reduction to a minimum of 0. In the case of an Evasion shield, the value is simply set to 0 if the Trigger chance is rolled.
2. Creatures that have Atk less than or equal to the damage prevention value of a Shield do not trigger a Shield Response. This Includes 0 and negative attack creatures.

good luck! :)

Imagine there is an Armagio and a Gravity Shield out for my opponent and Armagio has activated gravity pull. If I attack now with a 1|1 creature and a 1|6 creature, the armagio would only take damage from the 1|1 creature, right?

No. It would take one damage from the 1l1 creature and one damage from the 1l6 creature. Gravity Pull comes before shields.

If there are any other stuffups on card text, note them in the Bug section.
