Should Elements make an Elements Card Game offline? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=16568.msg212089#msg212089

Poll if Elements should make an Elements Card Game offline or not. ;D

Edit: Yes, I do mean a downloadable version. I usually have a giant imagination. A downloadable game would be able to have the creatures actually look 3D. Maybe even a little autosave feature on it. But please discuss about what an Elements paper card game would be like!

Thanks for voting!

I'm hoping you mean a downloadable version. An IRL Elements would fail for obvious reason.

Assuming you mean a downloadable and offline Elements, I still think it would be useless. You can't PvP and there are no advertisements. Being downloadable it is less likely to be played by someone who has never played Elements.
Somehow still around, somewhat

Load the game in your browser, disconnect and play as long as you like. It wont save your progress unless you go back online though. But you CAN play.

If you like having Adobe constantly bother you about updates, you can actually download a flash player and download the .swf file of Elements.  Thus, you can actually play the game without opening up a browser.  You require an initial internet connection to log in, of course, but afterwords you can play all you want without internet connection.  You can even set the game's resolutions to your liking.

I haven't tried this with the Trainer though.  I wonder if an internet connection is even required for it.

if you are talking about a paper version, sure that would be nice but i don't think it is possible. I think the upgrade system prevents that.

A paper card game would be nice as well. But I doubt you could find people to play Elements with you easily on a card game. But of course, I like Elements free.

Any time you allow a game to be downloaded and played then reconected back to a main server for score submissions or to play PvP or whatever, you open the door to people manipulating and hacking the game code. Just for security reasons alone, the game should never be downloaded. If it is, there would have to be many, many security protocols in place to prevent such manipulations. I do not think Zanz has the man power or resources to develop the game to that point. Maybe in the future, but to be honest, I don't think the game is to that point or will be anytime soon. If it's to make it easier on us to play, that's quite the security risk to take. If it's to play on your own at home without the connection issues, all you'd be doing is playing against the AI which you can do here. I just don't think it's a viable option at the moment to allow the program to be shared at this point.

Umm... you are doing exactly that every time you load elements and play them. Game downloads to your comp, you play a bit and are connected back to server whenever game tries to save or you try to play PvP/T50.

My understanding is that only a portion of the code is downloaded onto my comp, enough that I can interface and play the game accordingly. If I actually download the entire game, source code and all, then I am mistaken and rescind my previous post. I am not extremely computer literate ;)

@kuross:
people have been using the offline trick to play for a long time...i think
one way to keep a farm up at all time is submit your score and log off, you can still play with your usual grinder offline and log in to save the state
i think zanz is well aware of this trick and if he dont intent it to be played that way, he would have taken countermeasure against doing such thing

The whole game is downloaded to your comp. Even all AI opponents (something that, for example, could be stored on servers if Zanz wanted to prevent offline play).
Source code has nothing to do with this. After you write your program/game, you compile it in a .swf file, after which the game is playable. Compiled code is what you are downloading before playing.

There's two parts to the code for Elements (your computer and the server).

The server:
- Stores data about your electrum/score/wins/deck/cards, which gets updated when you see that "Saving..." message at the top of your screen after a match / changing your deck.
- Coordinates PvP

Everything else is downloaded and run on your computer.
