In PvP 1 and 2 I always say "Hello" at the least and i do it at once and I try to strike up a conversation since i only do those out of extreme boredom.

In tournaments its "good luck" "have fun" or "gl" "hello" and only as a response if the opponent says anything. I prefer to use the chat as a means of communication in tournament as that actually have a history and can be counted upon as such.

Two windows beside each other one the screen, tournament chat and the game.

Generally go with the "hiya, good luck!"

if they are trolling and/or trash talking "don't feel disappointed when you lose plz."

If I am stalling and/or using some kind of annoying stuff like rage quit decks I do start a conversation, it feels only polite to do so. If we both are rushing my opponent might get a gg or a funny comment about how his Destroyers have met their end. Of course, if I see awesome deck concepts I do ask about them, and I do talk to uber-newbs with fail decks on PvP1 to direct them here and give them some advice. There's also many PvP2 people who think they are far above your level, and I also enjoy some trolling in the form of "Admiral Ackbar says: It's a trap! PS - You are screwed", after which they sometimes ragequit and make the game that much better.

I start off with a good luck, and will chat with the opponent if he/she/it wants to talk.
You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

I always start with dropping a 'hi there' or 'have fun', as it is basic decency, at least I think so. And it's nice to get a simple greeting in return  - if nothing else - just to know that your opponent's on-line. Though many of the PvP1/2 roamers  tend to stay silent throughout the match..

I don't play a lot of competitive pvp, mainly cause I hate playing the same uncreative deck every game. But I love a friendly pvp with people. In friendly's I will always greet them, I'm always up for a chat.

i think there are only three main reasons for pvp 1 and 2.
-socializing
-relaxation after a lot of fail FG grinding or ai3
-to see all the new and creative deck designs out there and make your own rendition
is there anything i've missed (to show off does not count ;))

if they are trolling and/or trash talking
I get alot of that.
"Your pathetic, you're supposed to play creatures"
"Play creatures noob"
etc.

I play an OTK, so often finish my 2nd to last turn with "What? I was supposed to play these?", and drop over 100 attack worth in a turn :)

I'm generally chatting irl or on msn while I play Elements so I don't really bother chatting in here.

I like saying 'UHAEUHAUEHAEUHAUEHAUHEUAHEUHAUEHAUEHAUHEU' before my last blow - when I'm about to win, of course - , wait 'till the timer goes down to 10secs to make sure my opponent sees it and, then, I attack.
