I usually sing, instead of greeting.
EPIC LOL! i would plus karma but for the recent karma scams that have been going round ;)

anyways, i usually greet pvp1s and ask if they need any advice. most do and are very polite about it, other get cross thinking that i am on the same level as them. pvp2 i wait to see if it will be a long game. if so i will be very social and have fun. if not it's gl and gg as well.

I tend to be antisocial whenever I enter duels and try to avoid contact with the opponent.  Reasoning is silly, but basically I assume that most people are there for the same reason I am:  To get the duel over and done with.  I'll sometimes talk to people I know pretty well outside of the game, but other than that I try to limit communication as much as possible.
this is not my personal perspective on the matter
if i want to play and avoid contact, I play the AI

PvP is so slow (with my internet), that the only redeeming value in it is the
other people (and therefore discussions) in it

What is the point of pvp if the other person is functionally a very slow AI with a different deck?

there is a fair point in there. what's the point of pvp apart from just to chat. AIs are good for grinding and everything else. why go on pvp if you aint doin' nuffing?

The only reason I enter PvP1 or PvP2 is if I want to test a deck against a real person for actual intelligence rather than an AI since it...tends to make mistakes frequently.  Otherwise I do PvP Duel for PvP Events and/or tourneys, during which most of the time we communicate using chat PMs anyways so it defeats the purpose of chatting in game altogether.  But I VERY rarely PvP against other people anyways...perhaps I should have made that more clear to begin with.

I always greet, and if the person responds I'll make comments.  As long as you don't say anything really rude I find that people are very friendly.

I used to, until I discovered how rude the majority of pvp1 players are. Now I'll only talk if they do first.
More reason why I do. I refuse to be "that" person. And I feel players, Once given the opportunity, will respond and actually remember better my name and my demur. (also think it might help make another player be more sociable)

(also could someone explain how to post multi-quotes?)

Click the "multi-quotes" button for every post you want to quote, and then click "reply" at the bottom of the page. All the posts you quoted will show up.

And same, I think at least a greeting is the polite and respectful thing to do. Even with these online games I still feel an obligation to show good sportsmanship.

And maybe it's just me but I've never encountered a troll or someone acting rude on PvP...maybe because I don't play it that often. But I'm surprised at how many people on this topic so far have mentioned the apparent rudeness of PvP.

I have encountered a couple rude people along the way but its worth it when you learn a bit of someone you dont know.
