Am I right in saying that the only methods of permanent control are Pulverizer, Deflagration, and the Butterlfly Effect?

I think earthquake and trident also count as permanent control, even though it's limited.

Ah yes. Steal.

Ok, but compare it to the huge amout of creature control:

Plage. Virus. Aflatoxin. Fire bolt, Ice bolt. Fore storm, thunderstorm. Parasite. Scarab, Otyugh, lightning chaos seed pandemonium maxwell's demon and unstable gas.

And that's only the ones that directly damage them. It's not including freeze, reverse time, or any shields.

DOn't think I'm complaining at the large number of them in any way. It's just that so few elements actually have a method of permanent control. This means that if you want PC, you are quite restricted in your choice of elements (unless of course you go rainbow).

Well deflag is cheap enough to run off of the mark if you want at least.

Don't forget Drain Life in CC.

Also it's important to note that there are tons more creatures than there are permanents in the first place ... so it makes sense for the control to be distributed similarly.

my main problem isnt with lack of permanent control, but lack of permanent protection.

But then again the small amount of  PC makes PP less needed... :-\

To be completely technical, some mutations also result in permanent control :P.

Well, permanent is supposed to be "permanent" after all. You just can't compare the control with the creatures' ones directly.

Technically, 'Nymph's Tears' can also be executed as a form of very specific permanent control, but it's permanent control nonetheless if executed properly. :)

Also - mutate can actually kill creatures as well, while Rage Potion and Liquid Shadow (poison) can be considered crowd control due to their specific mechanics that lower stats/damage creatures. You also forgot Shockwave, Flooding, and Eagle's Eye as other crowd control abilities. :P

If you count Nymphs tears as PC, you can count:
Adrenaline + Thorn Carpace
Heavy Armour + Gravity Shield
as CC
