Oracle: Any method to the madness? https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=5788.msg59271#msg59271
« on: April 26, 2010, 12:29:31 am »
So I know how superstitious players can be (myself included) even though we all know everything is "random number generator" this and "that's how it's coded" that.  But I'm looking to see how other players approach getting their fortunes from the Oracle and if they think this helps them win cool cards.

So far I've tried...
...hitting the button right when my mark is lined up--no good.
...hitting the button when my mark is at the opposite side--no good.
...hitting it right away--no good.

I have no idea what I did when I won my nymph.  Wish I could do it again though!
Bring back Holy Cow!

I clicked quite randomly, when the arrow is between two elements.

I've always clicked when the arrow is pointing directly at the Time mark.
4 nymphs so far in 2 months.
Not bad I'd say.

It's always random(12) + 1 for element. The rotation is just an animation, and has nothing to do with that.

You sure about that?

I have found that it's easier to win a Nymph when I'm wearing a blue hat. It also helps if Mars and Venus are aligned correctly.

Here are some other things to try:

- clicking the button as soon as the window loads
- waiting for 10 minutes before pressing the button
- looking at the Oracle directly in the eyes when pressing the button
- not looking at the Oracle when pressing the button
- shouting "Oh, great Oracle, Give the a Nymph!" while pressing the button
- wearing a red hat and green pants while pressing the button

Please everyone try these out and record your results.

Actually, as someone superstitious, I always ask someone who's been lucky today to pick.  They just pick what they like.  Granted, I've won just as many as everyone else, but it still makes me feel like I have better odds.

That's backwards. It's green hat, red pants.  Red hat green pants gives pillars.

I think it picks a random card directly, not a random element and a random card from that element. I know it's not random(12), at least -- occasionally, instead of spinning, the wheel will stop rotating immediately (even between elements) when I hit the button, and an "other" card will be revealed.

*relooks*
Step 1: Generate a card.
Step 2: Looks into the card to see what element it is.
Step 3: Moves the wheel to the element. However, there doesn't seem to be a "No Element" condition, so it may be glitchy (wheel doesn't move?) when it is a neutral card.
Step 4: Reveal card.

Yeah, you're right.

But yeah, either way, it's totally clear that it's not related to WHEN you click the button.

I think like you do too. It seems logical that the game decides card first and makes the oracle spin and show element correctly and then revealing the card.

At first i clicked over colors i wanted. Won my first gravity nymph because it stopped right over gravity on my first day of playing. After that i started clicking at random when i saw that the wheel kept going no matter where i pressed. Some week ago i tried to click in between colors and got three other cards three days in a row.
That made me a little superstitious, so stopped doing that and only click above colors i want. Mostly the oracle wheel spins and give me something else.

But most of all I don't expect anything at all from oracle. All it will do is setting the user up for disappointment.
