the only thing that baffles me is that people are actually overexcited about this so call 'new art' when in fact it is as simple as inverting the picture
seriously guys? you've never actually go to MSPAINT -> Image ->Ctrl+I?

i'm not gonna touch about the whole copyright thingy (even if i think the whole thing is silly, kinda like the issue of purchasing songs but you're not allowed to profit from by via reselling etc even though there is NOTHING to be gained from the simple act of inverting an existing art other than gaining the admiration from a totally clueless flock of idiots)

p/s: tell you what, invert my avatar pic. go ahead. you know you want to

Lol I dont see why everyone seems to think he is claiming this is some great form of art. He said right away that he was playing around with it and just thought it looked cool. Its not difficult to do, but it does take some time to save every picture, invert it, and upload it so all the people who commented they liked it can see the art for all the different cards wthout having to do it themselves. All he did is make a thread because he thought it looked cool, and some people agreed so he kept doing it. He's not hurting anyone by posting these, and he has removed all art that he was told to.

i dont have any issue with op himself (well, at least until he posted "I already created a lot of inverted cards"...)
just the reaction from the crowds...

Lol he just meant that he created them as in he inverted them and saved them... I really dont see what all the fuss is about :P. As for the reaction, its funny to me that you dont see why people think it looks cool when you yourself have an inverted picture as your avatar :P. He never claimed it was something hard to do, just that he thought it looked cool, and a lot of people agree.

Some of these inverted images are pretty cool.  However if everyone uses inverted avatars, they will no longer be special.  I think I like the inverted shochwave the best.

My avatar is so awesome it doesn't need inverted.  Mad scientist mummy ftw!!!  (vrt would murder me if I even thought about inverting it anyways :) )

Anyone with a speck of graphic editing skill would not be impressed by the inversion of an image.

My avatar looks... strange... when inverted. It is copyrighted on deviantART, but I don't give a sh!t if you want to invert it; it's not like I can stop you if you want to.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

Just looked, and actually, no it's not, the copyrighting isn't formatted properly.

also, just putting the copyright symbol doesn't make it copyright. You need to fill out a whole form, submit it with your original work, then wait for it to be returned.

Bloodshadow has copyright over his art. He doesn't have to do anything to get that copyright, it's automatic.

If I drew a stick figure right now, the instant it's ready, I would have full copyright over it without even mentioning the word. And if you take that stick figure and go sell it for a million bucks, I could sue you and win with a 100% certainty.

This "copyrighted on deviantART" doesn't really have anything to do with actual copyright. It's just a way to prove you have the copyright in case there is a dispute over who owns the copyright for that particular piece of art.

Yep, SG is entirely right.

The creator does not need to register or go through any formal steps to achieve copywritten status -- copyright is automatic from the moment of creation.  Copyright registration only serves as extra protection in case of infringement (solid proof of copyright ownership).  (Reference (http://www.thecopyrightsite.org/faq.html#register), so you know I'm not just pulling this out of the air)

In fact, only works specifically noted as public domain are free use; the rest can be safely assumed to be copywritten by the author.  Fortunately, the vast majority of people don't patrol the internet looking for misused artwork to sue over -- but it's still technically copyrighted.

I think the marks look like their counter-parts e.g. fire looks like water, air looks like earth, dark looks like light. Pretty cool when you think about it.
