Does that mean we're not allowed to edit any of the images in Elements? Including the elemental icons?

I think just gargoyle and mummy are vrt's.  It would have been nice if he'd specified though.  Zanz could also complain about his work being used of course, but he's not likely to do so.

And Phoenix, and alternate Chimera, etc. Many other cards are Spore creations by Shattari, Fotosynthesis, and others.

I dont mean to sound rude or anything (far from it, I think all of your work is amazing and appreciate that you let this game use it), but Im just wondering why? what if credit was given that the original picture was yours or zanzs?

Also, I didnt realize that that was the skeleton of a hand under pluage until I saw the inverted one

I'm sure vrt will elaborate on this, but basically, every single image on an Elements card belongs to somebody. None of those images can be used, edited, or distributed without that artist's consent. True, there are circumstances that legally allow for public use without consent, but considering vrt is a very active member of our community, it isn't hard to ask first. Vrt has given Zanz license to use his work, but that doesn't mean that we as a community are free to take those images and run with them.

The key word here is copyright. Images taken from Elements are copyrighted, meaning that in theory, we cannot use any of them for anything without a written permission from the copyright owner.

However, in reality we can use most of them because Zanz doesn't have a problem with Elements players fooling around with the images here when nobody is stealing anything. There is a big difference between elements fans posting edited elements art on elements forums, and a person taking elements art and selling it on his website for $1 each.

vrt has made many of the new art found in Elements. While I personally don't understand what the big deal is, if vrt wants his images to stay unedited, the community should respect that and limit this project to older images only.

Sorry, I meant of the ones that were posted already.  As for other art:
The spore stuff was made for fun and maybe recognition.  Given that zanz got permission to modify and use it for elements, chances are low of there being any problems.  Even at that, it would be best to obtain permission, give credit, and keep it to elements related things.
Zanz could have a problem with this.  Very, very, unlikely.  Just don't use it commercially.
vrt is a professional artist.  He probably wants to keep a high level of control over his work, this is his right.  He also could be doing this for less altruistic reasons.  The login screen does link to his portfolio after all.
pepokish may or may not mind.  Ask.

I know that both pepokish and vrt do mind if people use their work without permission. It's their work, so they have every right to decide how it can be used. For anything else, it is technically fair use unless the specific artist says otherwise.

I do mind if people use my work without permission for things outside of what it's meant for.  However, I don't consider this 'use outside of what it's meant for'.

Leaf Dragon scares the hell out of me inverted, but if anyone wants to use it as an avatar or something, be my guest.  (:
